I think "watched" is the operative word. I could not attend due to a prior lunch date.

Right - I need some help guys - and you are just the folk to give me your expertise.
I need a new fence between the neighbours and me - once again the gales have made a mess of it - 3 uprights are down [ rotted at ground level ] and the horizontal planks are more or less piled up in an untidy heap. I have piccies but can't put them up as they were discreetly taken on my phone.
They like their privacy [ err understandable if you keep bikes openly in your garden ] so we had this 6 ft high fence . Now it's been reconstructed once and wasn't done properly the last time - horizontals weren't staggered correctly and the gaps between the horizontals clearly weren't right either .
Can anyone suggest what we can put up ? I'm not made of money . Any routine maintenance will have to be paid for by me [ they do none on their own house either ] and I'll have to get a wee man in to do that.
I would like what's at the bottom of my garden between me and the common entry way - chain link fencing with solid metal uprights . They can then let the bushes on their side grow up to the top of the fence and will have their privacy BUT the wind/gales etc will be able to blow through and won't meet solid planks.
Comments on this scheme would be welcome even though this is not really pointless I know.

Concrete Fencing with Feather Edge Fence Panels link
is probably about the cheapest and should last at least 20 years. You'll have to find a really small cheap contractor to do it, it's only really a DIY job so it shouldn't be too hard to find someone. Try reading adverts in newsagents etc. Insist that the posts are concreted in and not just backfilled with the earth dug out.
DIY centres seem to have stopped stocking concrete and have moved over to timber???..... possibly because they know concrete last forever and with timber you'll be back to buy again in a few years
Good luck
Edit: Some good examples of wooden fencing here: link
