The music playing over the tannoy was Handel's Messiah, specifically the Alleluia Chorus. I waited for someone to start ranting "King of Kings - ain't no fing" but it didn't happen.
It was really surreal.
I find this reference to Chavs rather offensive Oggy you do realise that if people like you paid much higher taxes than these poor dregs of society would be able to afford a better lifestyle, no more hollow gold around their necks, no more playing x-box on a measly 40inch screen, they would be able to rise above drinking Skol all day and perhaps savour the delights of Hoegaarden whilst listening to Handel on their pirated CD's.I had a bizarre experience today. I'd love to pay more in tax-I find this reference to Chavs rather offensive Oggy you do realise that if people like you paid much higher taxes than these poor dregs of society would be able to afford a better lifestyle, no more hollow gold around their necks, no more playing x-box on a measly 40inch screen, they would be able to rise above drinking Skol all day and perhaps savour the delights of Hoegaarden whilst listening to Handel on their pirated CD's.
- because that would mean I was earning more.
What's the difference between a chav and a Slinky spring?
Not that much - they are both of very little use or value, but it can be amusing to see them fall down stairs.

You can use a slinky as a radio aerial, which is one major difference!
Legend has it that US Army radio men would buy piles of them while on leave from Vietnam, as they were perfect for connecting to radios and then throwing up into trees to get better reception.
Mind you, considering the grease levels of our local chavs I wouldn't be surprised if they were highly conductive...

Maybe we should try throwing a chav up a tree. Unlikely to achieve anything other than a sense of satisfaction.

I had to do a 'yoof consultation' for a public park project my company were involved in. The lads who came along looked like your stereotypical chavs / hoodies.. the type who hang around in tracksuits and make you subconsciously feel for your wallet as you walk past them. This was in a rough part of Coventry. To cut a long story short, they were incredibly considerate and polite! Did they want skate ramps, BMX tracks and 'teen shelters'? No... somewhere for their little brothers and sisters to play (there was nowhere locally they said) and a quiet place with a fountain etc for elderly people.

This from Wikipedia.................................
Chav probably has its origins in the Romani word "chavi", meaning "child"[3] (or "chavo", meaning "boy",[4] or "chavvy", meaning "youth"[5]).[6] This word may have entered the English language through the Geordie dialect word charva, meaning a rough child.[7] This is similar to the colloquial Spanish word chaval, meaning "kid" or "guy".[4][8]
The derivative Chavette has been used to refer to females.[citation needed]
The Oxford University Press has said that the word is "generally thought to come from Chatham girls",[4] and Michael Quinion says that that is "where the term is best known and probably originated".[6]
Many urban legends have sprung up around the etymology of the word. These include the backronym "Council Housed And Violent" or "Council House Associated Vermin",[1] and the suggestion that pupils at Cheltenham Ladies' College and Cheltenham College used the word to describe the young men of the town ("Cheltenham Average").[9] However, Michael Quinion has said that "we must treat supposed acronymic origins with the greatest suspicion; these examples are definitely recent after-the-event inventions as attempts to explain the word, though very widely known and believed."[6]
By 2005, media references to 'chavs' had spread the word throughout Britain.
