Another vote for 1&1 here. both mine & the wifes websites are through 1&1, the biggest advantage of paying is owning your own domain name which is quite cheap in itself. instread of having a URL something like w.w.w.freeserve.co.uk/freepages/hardgravityathome.com you can have w.w.w.hardgravity.com or .co.uk or whatevers available.I have never found free web hosting to be good value. sorry, I had to put dots between the Ws or they would have been posted as clickable links

I use 1and1 as my domain registrar, they are pretty good and the prices are competitive (for UK domains anyway, not so much for US ones). They do fall down slightly on the more advanced technical stuff (you can't set up your own nameserver, for instance).
A bit of free advice, it is generally good practice to have your domain registered with one orgnaisation, and your web hosting with a different one. Having them both in one place is not good if you ever get in a dispute with your host.

Has anyone a 'foliopic' website? It looks good to me and I be really thinking about it. Only thing is they do not seem to 'sell' domain names.
Kind regards

Sorry, just seen the part of having domain name from a different provider. Makes sense. Anyway, anyone got any experience with 'foliopic'?
Kind regards

I have a domain, www.hardgravity.co.uk and free space on the Virginmedia servers, but waslooking for a bit extra space for posting manuals too.
Being a Yorkshireman I don't like paying for owt if I can get it free, but it looks like I may have to either pay or change my ideas.
Hope the works going OK Gwyn.

Hardgravity, you could sign up for a free 2GB Dropbox account (which is completely brilliant anyway, especially if you regularly use more than one computer), and then anything you put into the 'Public' folder will appear on the web. So you can then link it from your hardgravity.co.uk domain, thereby not using any space on your virgin space.

I have a Dropbox which is on both Laptops and my iPodTouch - so far it's working brilliantly Much easier than e-mailing PDFs that I normally proof read for a friend . Now they simply drop into the DropBox , I check it over and he can read my comments as soon as they are done Doesn't matter where I am - I still get them

So how many of you will be tucking in to Haggis tonight and reciting incomprehensible (to us Sassenachs anyway) poems?

Haggis is at its best when it's battered and deep fried. With chips!

Do you batter everything greynolds? What with your poor computer getting a battering in your avatar and now a poor innocent wee haggis...
