Just received a letter from the council about road closures due to the marathon a week on Sunday, it goes along the road parallel to ours. We are used to the inconvenience a couple of times a year from other road races and we know if we want to use our cars on those mornings we have to leave them outside the route that encircles our house. This time the roads are closed from midnight Saturday to midnight Sunday, they must be expecting some very slow runners. Not only that but they will be closed part of Saturday too for route acclimatisation. Yesterday I saw 10 Yorkshire transport double decker buses in our road and 6 Norfolk Police Dog Branch cars.

Just be thankful, Ken you don't live near Celtic Park. The folk in a small privately owned housing are there have received instructions re their behaviour

No children playing in the road after 6pm.

No radios / music to be played after 6pm

No activity in their gardens after 6pm

OH and they have personal IDs for their cars which must be used and again no car movements after 6pm.

Now with all this they also have 8 ft high solid fences up blocking their sight of anything .

I can't get to see some friends who live near Hampden - just can't see how to get my car near them , and the buses are horrendously diverted.

You think you've got it bad.

We have a Glasgow football team sullying the sacred turf at Murrayfield!

I say sacred because many prayers are prayed at Murrayfield (although few answered). And it not so much turf now as the stuff greengrocers use to display apples.

But you get my point.

I had heard that and at first I didn't believe it. On the plus side we have had the road resurfaced and the letter box painted because we are on the route between Bellahouston/Ibrox and Hampden. I was in Staples at Finnieston this morning and that road is closed all next week. I've spotted two 'games lanes' which are running the wrong way up previously one way streets, a sure recipe for accidents.

The same arguments were heard before the London Olympics of 2012. It turned out to be a massive success for London; the UK; and for sport in general.

I have to say if this is the feeling of the majority, I dont think you deserve the Commonwealth games, and perhaps it would be better if it had been staged elsewhere. Shame on you.

I don't mean to be controversial and not to take anything away from the fantastic achievments of team GB, but I think that should read 'success for London; the South East and a few already well paid sports personalities'.
As for me, all I know is that I know nothing.

I don't see that there is any shame to be borne by anyone commenting on draconian measures that ban children from playing in their own gardens.

What is the thinking behind banning people from their gardens? Why from 6 pm?

It should at least guarantee a heat wave for you.

It all sounds like a good reason to have booked a holiday and let out the house for the duration!

It will all be over in 17 days. Keep that thought .

Well I have just found out, it is to prevent the athletes in the village, behind an obligatory 10feet high wall, being disturbed by the distant sound of childrens laughter. I can only assume the athletes are sensitive souls who have taken a vow of silence themselves!

I am not sure if it is legal to ban people in their own private gardens....or on the public footpath. As for noise control it would have to contravene a certain level.

By the way many businesses lost thousands when the Tour de France came through Yorkshire. Only a few in hospitality made money.

Still I went to the lakes as I did not fancy 2 days of major road closures

I noticed when I was in Harrogate the week before that a lot of shops had signs saying they would be closed

Did I read ecoli has made an appearance and portaloos are to be placed at the end of each lane of the track, giving the athletes an even greater incentive to run very fast
