We currently have a builder in fitting a new shower. As part of the work he had to remove some skirting board, behind which were pages from a copy of Paris Match.

Why is this interesting? Well one of them has a French advert for the Spotmatic and Super Takumar 50mm f1.4! It's in three pieces and has bits missing but I'm sorely tempted to tape it together, scan it, and see if I can repair the damage digitally to get a copy of the advert.

It strikes me they were far too young to be charged for that 'crime'. Mind you I don't know all the details. But in general I don't think kids should be treated in the same way as adults.

I heard a report on the radio about a norwegian case similar to the infamous Bulger case. The mother of a child murder victim told the reporter very adamantly that she did not expect the killer to have been locked up like an adult, even though the youth, who had received psychological treatment rather than a jail term, and still lived locally, had started to harass other members of her family.

I was very impressed by the way she didn't give in to what would be an understandable desire for retribution.

Same thought, I mean when are boys of 10 year sexual active to begin with?
And them in a way that will haunt them for the rest of their live seems to be wrong.
They probably don't even know what they were doing and that only the motehr saw it is rape... of course we dont know all the details.

I'm not too happy about this case either .

But then I had to deal with a young girl who at the age of 16 finally found the courage to report what had happened to her aged 9 . I was working at the time and the normal procedure was to report this to Social Services who would instantly take the child into care . Since it wasn't a family member, this didn't seem appropriate and I rang the head of Child Protection - who actually agreed with me and said he would handle the case for me. I was sent a wonderful female cop [ from the Female and Child Unit } who really knew her job , and in my presence [ the girl refused to be questioned unless I was there ] she established what had happened - no leading questions and the 'interview' stopped when the girl said " if it happened to me now I could become pregnant "

We arranged that the girl would stay in the family house , and to prevent her being whisked away [ which we thought likely ] the family were told that I would collect her every day , and should the father refuse to allow her to come to School Uniformed Police Officers would be there within minutes .

The whole case collapsed when the Social Worker insisted on questioning her on her own and I found afterwards when I asked xxxx how she had got on that certain words were put to her in questions that until then she didn't know [ otherwise she would have told the Cop and me ] and she was then able to use them . These words were technical /legal / medical . The Cop and I had been very very careful to let her tell the story her way and we had questioned as little as possible - we both believed her implicitly - her description of her abuser's face after the event left us in no doubt.

Why have I brought this up ? Well my understanding is that there are questions being asked about the questions used in Court by one of the legal team, which some have indicated may have been leading questions and caused the little girl to change the way she gave her story .

Very very difficult area to be talking about - having experienced being a 10 year old boy ( 1956 ),I am saddened to think that,in this day and age, children are so focused upon and knowledgeable about things that to me were unthinkable at that age.
Yes, I am sure I was involved in " show me yours etc" and "doctors and nurses" etc - but NEVER in my recollection was there any desire to be any more than curious and the fear of parental recrimination was sufficient to take the desire out of going any further ( even if I had experienced any desire ! ).

I find this to be another symptom of the general malaise which we have allowed to fester in this country - lack of parental care or interest, abrogation of responsibility , and the freedom to allow children to "do what they want" in order to have an easy life.
The judge said he had misgivings about the trial,I certainly have ,and without knowledge of any of the intricate details I am uncertain as to who the instigator of these happenings was.

I think maybe parental responsibiliy needs to be addressed - certainly when the Tabloids print photos of the 3 year old daughter of Jordan dressed like a tart and magazines promote growing up as quickly as possible.
Sorry to be a bit heavy - I`m off to Ashbourne Derbyshire tomorrow for a 2 day family gathering - two cameras and 5 lenses should do it !

Wonderful what you did that Techno and I can only give you kudos for that.

About what happened now is different since you're not directly involved and you've no idea how the interrogation went so it's hard to say anything for outsiders but it's a question I think that needs to be investigated to be honest.

I agree fully with you but to be honest I don't think that the boys and girl where really sexual active so to say, and from what I understand the mother of the girl saw it and interpreted it as rape. At least that's how I read it but we only know so little of course.

Here Tony read this. link

I believe that's along the line what you say or not?
Quote:
"Did none of the members of the jury have a normal childhood? Did none of these ever show their 'thingies' to other children behind the bike shed? If every male child were arrested for playing doctors and nurses, then I doubt if there'd be a single bloke walking the streets free today."
---------------------------------------------
"Is there any other period in our history, or any other country in the world, where the pre-pubescent fumblings of children would result in a rape trial? We bombard children with sexual imagery and then are surprised when they show interest in what it means. It is astonishing that they were convicted but even more amazing is that it even came to court at all."

I think they were actually found not guilty of rape, but guilty of attempted rape.

Thank what ever deity you hold that I do not have to face anything nearly as difficult as sorting anything like this out.

My one thought on this and similar cases is that there should be a very thorough investigation into the perpetrators' upbringing, and why they felt it was acceptable to do as they did.

Another thought, if you set out to commit a crime but botch it for whatever reason, are you really guilty of a lesser crime than had you not botched it?

Scary to read that the US government INSISTED that BP used the US recommended rig builders not their own tried and tested ones !
But will they accept responsibility ? I think not.

Indeed strange.
Why did they also wait so long for requesting aid?
