Newbiggin-on-Lune used to be in Westmoreland before it became part of Greater Cumbria. There's a tiny garden centre there with a coffee shop where Irene and I stop for our first break on one of our regular drives to Shropshire/Worcestershire/Gloucestershire via the M6.Newbiggin-on-Lune...

Looks like Spring is finally here.
Which would explain why I'm about to start work again.
Always manage to have rotten weather when I'm on a break.

I don't know what all the fuss is about sweeping chimneys...
...I've just spent an hour doing ours and it wasn't that bad.
It's 2 years since it was last swept at a cost of £60, so I decided to get a £20 brush set from ebay and have a go myself.
Result?
Lots of 'stuff' and a grazed thumb knuckle, not to mention smug feeling and a promise of a bottle of wine this evening..
..result!

I use a set of drain rods with a brush end. Much easier if you have a stove as you can do it from the roof and there is no mess whatsoever.
The hardest part is keeping up the Dick Van Dyke 'Cockney' accent!

Yep I allways sweep chimneys from the top down if possible ,much less mess ... years ago I lent my set of rods to a friend who forgot to only twist the rods clockwise .... you can guess the result hours messing about with rope with heavy things tied on and a bit of shounting in a Dick Van Dyke 'cockney' accent......jeff.....
