The only way to drink whisky is with just a few drops of water to open up the flavours, a bit like decanting wine. Malts made for the Japanese market, especially from the Ben Nevis distillery are incredibly strongly flavoured to cope with the Coca-Cola the Japanese insist on pouring into them.

I use Ginever for mouthwash, Gwyn.

KININVIE
RED RIVER
ROSEISLE

We shouldn't ignore the distilleries which closed in recent decades but that have been bottled as single malts in recent years. There was a raft of closures in the early eighties and nineties so some are becoming quite rare.

The worst "whisky" and I use the term only because it said it was on the bottle was Suntory, a Japanese concoction. I was never sure if it wasn't meant to be spelt Sanitory, and only for use in external toilets.

Being married to a whisky buff I have tried a fair few in my time. I have yet to find one I like.

You missed out Frysk Hinder, from Friesland in your list. But nearly everyone describes that as mouthwash.

There is also Millstone, another Dutch offering. Haven't tried that though.

They own a few Scottish distilleries like Bowmore, I think. When they bought out the original family a friend of mine did rather well from it; her dad was head of money at the old company and had bought his kids a small amount of shares as a wee nest egg. After the buyout she moved out of her rented Chiswick bedsit into a detached house in Windsor, traded her 8 year old 2CV for a new 5 Series BMW and bought a big black horse called Diablo.

Are the Dutch ones 'whisky' or 'whiskey'?

Whisky.

As I say I don't how drinkable the Millstone is, but the Fryske Hind tastes like it comes from the rear end of a Fryske Hind apparently.

I find whisky hard going and never really enjoy it

That makes my Dad happy as he never has to offer me some when we visit

Whisky is an occasional drink at Hardgravity Towers...

.....There's a certain son who helps me out when the Grouse is in season...

.......he also raids the beer cupboard occasionally as well.

I like 3 day weekends, it means I get to drink beer longer.

Just finished the last Lighthouse, what next?
Cheers, HG
