Having failed for grandmother of the year today I am on my second Merlot now.
Son phoned this morning to ask if I could look after youngest grandson as the older one had to go to hospital for a check up. I had already made other plans so said no. He was not happy. I said if he'd asked me yesterday before he left me with them I could have done it, but phoning this morning was too late. I have my own life.
He hung up in a huff.

Good one Gwyn.
He might learn not to take you for granted and even appreciate the fact that you do have an independent life.
Since my son went off to uni we hardly hear from him.
Unless he's hungry and run out of money that is!

I know what you mean I was 400 hundred miles away - but one year had to rush back from France when elder daughter's husband was taken ill and admitted to Coronary Care . That was a nightmare drive - we reached Calais at breakfast time got the first crossing and headed to London - to find he'd been discharged and we had not been told .
Occasionally you do have to remind them you have your own life and should not be taken for granted

The trouble is they are used to her mother dropping everything to look after the kids. She is still on holiday so second string gets called upon. Except I'm not so keen on doing babysitting duties thank you very much.
Love the grandkids, but I don't want to babysit them or help raise them. I raised my own three without the aid of grandparents or other babysitters on call, and have done my share of childrearing. Now it's their turn.
Definitely bottom of the class as a grandmother .

This is even more reason to drink Merlot, I'm sure my Cardiologist said a bottle of red wine a day was good for the heart, the wife seems to recal it was only a glass but I'm sure she misheardtaken ill and admitted to Coronary Care
And while on the subject of healthy hearts, eating at least five portions of fruit or veg. per day goes a long way to keeping it healthy, now wine is made from grapes so does that count as one of your five a day:

... errr... no.
Grapefruit flavoured gin drinks don't either. But boy do they disappear easily...
Ah well. The windows are boarded but at least I know what I'm doing with my amps now. Need to order some 15mm ply tomorrow and then I can get on with putting them in the right place and worrying about cabling.

I'd say it does, although I've been known to argue that tomato ketchup should count so you may not want to listen to me too closely! And while on the subject of healthy hearts, eating at least five portions of fruit or veg. per day goes a long way to keeping it healthy, now wine is made from grapes so does that count as one of your five a day:
Also the difference between a bottle and a glass depends entirely on the size of the glass!

Whilst suffering one particularly bad hangover my better half said "I only had four glasses of wine, why do I feel this Bad?"
As for one of the five a day, why not?
Wines better for you than tofu!

Funny they tell something different here, you sure your government doesn't want to kill you?

I guess it all depends on what qualifies as "1 portion". In the UK I believe it is 80 grams.
