Stefan - we have London Gin and Plymouth Gin, distilled slightly differently so as to give a different taste. Can't ignore Bombay Gin - but that's London Gin in a different guise. However, with tonic - its the strength that counts most - 43 or 47 proof make the best G & Ts
Jenever (Gin) is different but uses the same basic ingredients IIRC - though can't ever recall it being mixed with tonic or bitters or vermouth for that matter. Got to be 30yrs since I last had any. May be time to break the seal on one of the houses...

Surely Jenever means juniper, which is the chief flavouring agent in gin. So all gin is derived from Jenever.
Agree about the strength of the gin for a G&T. I'm on export Tanqueray at the moment, though as I'm out of tonic I'm having the naval drink - Pink Gin.
I also feel that the tonic is very important. "Slimline" renders the drink totally impotable because of the revolting flavour of the sweetener.

Had to work late tonight, what a pain. Chris sent me a 1.4 Tamron TC suitable for SDM. Ordered Friday PM arrived at work by postie before I got there. So by the time I got home it was too dark for a respectable shot, what a pain. Still I put it on the K20 with the DA 300 just to prove the SDM connection and success! Expect it will pour with rain tomorrow lol.

Jenever is much more 'oily' than gin gin.

I don't like jenever, but I don't mind a Weduwe Joustra occasionally .
Wish I'd read the G&T suggestion before I started on the wine.
Now I'm taking my aching bones to bed.

My G & T tonight was made with genuine Export Gordons - 47% proof (as opposed to Gordons with the right style label but no content ie 37.3% proof - as seen in Aussie Bottleshops, price approx > £30 a litre!)
Sainsbury's Blackfriars Gin, 43% proof, at £15/litre is worth looking out for .
helpful?
could be in trouble for non pointless comment

I was taught to drink gin properly in Canada years ago by an English lawyer who had emigrated there. Tanqueray -- straight. All this nonsense about mixers led to the collapse of the British empire and our present reliance on China to make even our shoes. Spirits should be drunk straight, except for dark run, which goes well with Coke. Mount Gay (the finest of the light rums) should also be drunk straight. Here endeth the lesson -- for the time being, anyhow.

Whilst I don't entirely disagree with the main thrust of your post, I have to say that the only use for Coke is as a poor substitute for WD-40.
And au contraire, mixed gin probably saved the Empire. Tonic water, which I believe used to contain more quinine than it does now, saved many a servant of Empire from malaria.
Vodka (of the sort we get in the UK) and gin are OK when mixed. Few things beat a good Bloody Mary when you are both hungry and thirsty.
But otherwise, keep it straight, as you say.

I've hear many people say that the Islay malts are the best but I'm the only one that drink it because my Grandpa is of the Irish Whiskey and I'm afraid the bottle would be too long open
btw Glenfish is not a whiskey but a whisky
Are you Scottish very picky on that btw (whiskey vs whisky)?
