I think the focus really needs to be on the front anthers (I had to Google that ), and the crop seems a bit tight at the top and bottom. If you had a bit more room at the top and bottom you could get the upper bunch of anthers and the lower stamen closer to the thirds lines. It's all nicely exposed.
Finally this is personal taste but I would position something coloured in that black area to fill in the black space, I have a selection of coloured cushions swiped from the sofa I use for that purpose

Despite being pipped to the post by the omniscient thoughton for the second time today, I would still like to add my two-penneth worth
The colours, lines and curves of the pistils, stamen and enclosing corolla (none of which I needed to google :lol are all very appealing. I have to agree, however - although it pains me to have to admit, that the overall impact of the image is weakened by the front, and not the rear, anthers being in focus; as originally pointed out by 'we all know who'
The beauty of this subject, I presume, is that it is in your possession, so I would be inclined to take a 'second bite of the cherry' in the comfort of your own home
Regards,
Jon

Thanks, Tim, for the consrtuctive crit.
I found the dof wouldn't cover the front anthers (Well done!), & the pistil (Google again!).
I thought the tight crop drew attention to the pistil, a). against the black background, contrasting with the ott colour of the rest of the image & b). giving that theatrical look of curtains being drawn open to see Nature's show!
I'll re-shoot & see what happens - it's on its fourth flower, even as we speak!
Coker.

It took me a while to figure out what you meant! The Nixon rock? Despite being pipped to the post by the omniscient thoughton for the second time today
Coker if this was at f11 you should at least try f16 when you reshoot to maximise your DOF (performance will probably drop off higher than f16, it may still be worth a try).

Receiving you Coker: over!
Of the close-ups, I prefer one and three. The altered view and focal points, combined with the increased DOF, are a definite improvement. Further enhancements will depend on your ability to reduce the harsh lighting produced by the 'pop-up' flash despite your use of a diffuser. Possibilities that come to mind are the use of natural side lighting from a window balanced with a reflector or white card, which will probably require the use of a tripod, or a switch to off-camera flash.
The final shot shows just what an impressive specimen it is and I would certainly want to produce similar shots with modified lighting as suggested above.
Best wishes,
Jon

The 3rd one of the reshoots works best for me, although I agree that reducing the flash glare would be a good thing. The yellow anthers seems to have gone a bit browner in these later shots, not sure if that's just exposure or a different white balance.

I do like the general view one for the vibrant colours also would have chosen a dark background.
From the macro my favourite is number three but would PP out the flash reflection.
Great shots
