Amin made me do it ..

After looking at Amins recent water drop shots I was inspired to have a go.

Using a very basic set up of a plastic 'Martini' style cocktail glass, Duck tape and my sons milk bottle (with a number 2 teat in) and filling a 4 gb SD card with images, the following are the best of the bunch.

All shot on a tripod with the k200 and 70-300 tammmy with the on board flash

The plastic cocktail glass has some colour cycling LEDs in the pottom and I was hoping they would add a nice effect to the drops

This one I used some tinfoil as a background and tissues to soften the flash

Not the best composition but I only had an hour and a half to do it all and I wanted to focus on catching the drops.

I did try some long exposures to try and highlight the colours in the 'Martini' glass but it came out a little too weired for me. (I will post them later for C&Cs)

C&Cs welcome

Hi Paul

Nice shots. For your first effort I am very impressed. I remember my first efforts and they were not even worthy of uploading although even now I am still trying to improve.

First one seems under exposed. Second and third look very good, I am very impressed at how well you have managed to focus.

You can certainly build from here and make some tweaks and experiment, I am sure we will be seeing some more nice shots from you.

One of the tips to add colour is instead of that reflective tin in the background you said you put, if you replace it with a coloured reflective card you will have coloured drops. A drop of water will reflect colour from an angle of approximately 120 Degrees around it, so whatever you want reflected at a particular point in the drops just adjust the colours covering that angle .

Oh and if you want to add colours reflected from the bottom I personally think a martini glass is way too high. Get a flat transparent dish like a pyrex and put coloured card or anything with colours underneath it. They will reflect better.
