Amazon Da 55 -300mm deal

Mine turned up today (55-300) cant believe how light and little it is. Smaller than the 17-70
I think that's me done for lenses for a while.

My DA 55-300 came on Thursday. Just taken some test shots of a newspaper with it and its pretty poor. Right hand side is blurry until f11. Only good for 6x4 prints. My 25-30 year Tamron ad2 80-210 is sharper and all the way across the image. Will try and post some shots later.

The 55-300mm is an excellent lens, so if you're getting blurred images something is definitely amiss with lens or technique.
However, it's not intended for copying newspaper pages (a flat subject) so maybe it's curvature of field that's your problem. Try it on some more normal subject matter at a proper distance and see what it's like there.

Bear in mind AF doesn't work too good under Tungsten light.

Some lenses have flatter fields than others, but theyre still supposed to be symmetrical, and I can't believe that the field is *that* curved anyway.
Take the picture again in portrait mode, so that you can easily do it with the camera both ways up.
If it's the lens that decentred in some way, you'll see immediately, since the two shots will be blurred on the same side of the image, despite what will then be different subject matter.
If it's an artefact of the wall, or newspaper, or camera angle, you'll soon see.

Try asking them to exchange it - not refund the cost - as there is an option to do this in the Returns Policy routine.

K-3 II, K-3 and a K-70 from SRS (having now relegated the K-30 /"K-50" to a backup body), & some Sigma and Pentax lenses (and a lot of old 35mm gear!)

Why should amazon refund the money, I usually find amazon very good with exchange and after service...

I missed out on the Amazon offer (Doh), how much did they reduce the lens down to?
Mine both arrived today (with Free postage) Shame it was dark by the time I got home to them, but hopefully I'll have the chance to play with them tomorrow
