AF 200T Bit The Dust

Was taking a few pics of a lens im putting on fleabay with my two af200t flashes. came to pack away grabbed hold of one of them and it was red hot! let it cooldown put some fresh batterys in, capacitor starts to charge but no red test lamp. i dont suppose its worth repairing ?

Cheaper to buy another one. Parts probably aren't available
anyway.

I'd sooner have an AF-200T pack in than a £300+ flashgun

same conclusion ive come to, though it could have been the £8 one and not the £20 one thats kaput !

Time to keep an eye out for a sanely-priced AF280T?

I can't fathom used flash prices at all. The AF280T seems to have BIN prices around the £70 mark, meanwhile I've seen the AF240Z go for just over £10 and the AF200T for about the same.

I have all three and the advantage the AF200T has over the other two is the adjustable power output in manual. The lack of swivel and tilt is not an issue, when using off camera as I do.

The AF280T is my go to gun, when I am in an hurry. I find that one of the two auto settings gets the job done 9 times out of ten. I also like to use it in manual mode as an onboard trigger to fire a remote AF 360.

I bought a af280t off fleabay but despite being described as good condition it didnt work so i sent it back . Bought another the day after (great condition)and when that arrived thought wow this looks good, opened the battery door and found only three battery/spring terminals the other had rotted away ! couldnt be bothered sending it back so took it apart and soldered on a spring from the defunct 200t. after about 2 hours six pairs of hands and much swearing finally got it back together.
Fitted new batteries switched it on and hey presto it was dead as a dodo ! my better half says if i buy another one off fleabay she will ............... me. Its not stopped me looking though !

The AF280T is a great flashgun. It has plenty of settings; it tilts and swivels; and its built-in sensor means that it will give you correct exposure even with the latest DSLRs.

I tried to bid on one this evening, waited until thirty seconds to go, clicked bid...and the pathetic excuse for a website/internet connection just went "meh" and refused to load the confirm bid page!

Did just pick up one of the little AF160 units for £5 though, I now have two of them. They're a little bit more powerful than the built-in flash and a handy size for use with film bodies too. One thing I particularly love is that the "flash ready" indicator works with this on digital - Pentax have kept the same protocol since the 1980s!

All of the Pentax Auto flashes seem to work well on digital, just put the camera into Manual mode, set aperture and ISO to what the flash expects, and set shutter speed to something suitable (I just set mine to the highest sync speed of 1/180).
