Pay Pal, isn't always that good, 3years ago i bought a camera of ebay, condition not as listed, went through same process, the cost was £80 camera, not a complete refund as there was only a small amount in the sellers account and after 10days recieved
back 36 pence, reason thats all pay pal could get out of this account.
That is all i recieved....
Did you not open up a case with ebay or paypal?

Sorry, no he received £193 after £7 fees, so he has deducted the £7 fees from the refund he has given me. Sorry should have made that clearer bit stressed at the moment!

I can understand. All he has done is pay you some money as a fresh transaction. He needs to go into his paypal account and click the refund button, then he'll get the fees returned to him.

Liaise with him with this info and tell him you want the full refund and how it should be done to avoid anyone paying fees. You'll need to refund him the £193 and get him to click that refund button for the original transaction in paypal.

As I said, the process is confusing as even large dealers don't understand.

Unfortunately it wasn't on a thread, he approached me by message after a discussion on the forum about me thinking of getting one of these cameras, and said he was thinking of selling his. He is a well known and quite a long time member of the forum which is why I thought it would be better to buy from him, how wrong can you be?!

No, but as I say really well known member, and, in fact known for his photography with this camera, still stupid of me though.

Personally I would take the £193, put up with the postage loss and be glad you got out of it as easily as you did.

Things could have got a lot worse.

Yes, I agree, feel a bit peeved, but really can't be bothered to fight it anymore, not for the sake of a few £s. that's of course if the payment does come through next week!

Despite that I think I would still contact paypal to let them know what has happened and ask for their advice. If they have kept the seller's £7 fee they are party to this. With a bit of luck they may get it sorted out for you. Because it isn't ebay though it seems you haven't got their buyer protection though, for what it's worth.

If you raise a dispute with PayPal they will probably give you a full refund of the original amount paid. You can then take back your return postage from the current "refund" and send the seller the difference.

Of course you could drag it out for a few days if you want a bit of fun!
