Paypal should guide you through the process and let you know if and when the camera should be returned. Don't delay, do it today! Paypal will contact the seller for his version and obviously they give him time to do that.

Good luck.

Just an update, he contacted me this morning to say that he would give me a refund but he would prefer the camera back first, which I think is fair enough, I will be sending it on recorded delivery, so he can't say he hasn't received it or anything, and I have told him to refund my paypal as soon as he receives it.

Hi Jacqui

Just for your own protection I'd return it formally using the Paypal 'not as described' process, rather than just send it back.

As a seller, if someone has a problem with something I might just refund them and tell them to throw the item away, if the value is very low for example.

If the item is more expensive then I ask for it to be returned so I can examine it and confirm the fault. Then they get a refund as soon as it's received.

If the PayPal process is used it isn't possible to refund until the requisite number of days has elapsed, which can be a nuisance if both parties are being honest and straightforward.

Your choice, but as a seller I prefer the quicker route to resolve issues. eBay processes do say try to resolve matters first...
Best regards, John

I think I will send it back recorded and signed for, that way I have proof that he has received it back. I think that will be ok, I have all the messages as proof that he will refund on return. thanks.

May I suggest you also ask for a postage refund as well.

Hi, just thought I would update you all with the latest on this nightmare! sent the camera back on next day delivery (£9) should have asked for this to be refunded as well really, but didn't. The guy received it today, and I have just received refund from paypal, saying 'pending until Thursday 19th April' I have contacted paypal and they told me that it means there were insufficient funds available either in his paypal account or bank account. They said it would take 5-7 working days, but why should I have to wait another week for my money? I am already losing postage costs and now having to wait another week for a refund. I have sent him a message asking him to sort it and telling him I am not happy so we will see. rant over jacqui.

Oh and forgot the best bit, he has actually deducted the paypal fees from the refund as well and only paid me £193 instead of £200!!

Is that what they call 'Buyer Protection?'

They should at least refund what they can now from his account and cough up themselves for the rest.

Actually Jacqui I don't think it's anything to worry about. I suspect all that has happened is that he has withdrawn the original money from his Paypal account and now Paypal need to get it from his bank before they refund you.

Why it has to take 5-7 days is beyond me, but that is a usual Paypal timescale. I've both refunded and had refunds via Paypal when there is no money in the Paypal account and the timescale and message sound correct. It's a pain, but I don't think there will be anything he can do to speed it up.

If he refunded via Paypal he will automatically get the fees back so you should be refunded the lot. Are you sure you aren't getting £193 from him and £7 from Paypal?

If he puts it through as a refund, he'll get his ebay and paypal fees back anyhow. Sounds like he is paying you the £200 as a fresh transfer and I expect Paypal have deducted their fee. He needs to put it through as a refund. You need to tell him how to do it and get him to do it again!

I had a large dealer do it the wrong way and that happened. I refunded him back and then he put the refund through for the original transaction. Somehow we got it sorted out eventually.

Yes he apparently put it through as a refund but he said he deducted the £7 because that is all he received after fees, dont know why he thinks that I should pay for the fees when he is the one who sold the faulty camera!!

Pay Pal, isn't always that good, 3years ago i bought a camera of ebay, condition not as listed, went through same process, the cost was £80 camera, not a complete refund as there was only a small amount in the sellers account and after 10days recieved
back 36 pence, reason thats all pay pal could get out of this account.
That is all i recieved....

What, £7 from a £200 sale. Lost me there!

He'll get his fees refunded if he does it correctly.
