Stefan - English is a wonderful language.
How would you pronounce "ghoti"?
Take the gh from "cough" so that's F
Take the o from "women" so that's i
Take the ti "nation" so that's sh
So "ghoti" spells "fish".

They've probably seen the word "lenses" and failed to realise that you need to remove the e as well as the s to get the singular...
Also, if it's an unused unwanted gift then how come it seems to lack the lens caps? Even mine has those and it has definitely been used (carefully, but the paint is still worn)!
A genuinely unused boxed example would probably be worth a fair sum to a collector, but this blatantly isn't such an example.

I've noticed you say it before, but haven't felt the need to correct it, but this seems like the right thread to do so.
I wish I could speak/write a second language as well as you do.

Now, I agree that this is a great lens. I have one that I'm very happy with and fully intend to use on my MX come summer. However, that price is utterly bonkers - mine was a £20 impulse buy!
