very good idea!

I prefer the 2nd for the reflections, the 1st for the sky, can't decide on the 3rd one, maybe the 1st....

Don't I like polarizer?! or is related to calibration?

yes absolutely a screw-in filter, also for protection!
especially if it has no point on 12-24, and will be used only on the 17-70 and rarely on the 55-300.

Didn't you say that you keep the filter often (in sunny days I suppose or if you want to cut the reflection) and then add the Cokin system if you need?

About the shop you bougt the Zpro kit, is online or a street shop?
thank you

Well those last photos were a bit small.
You should see that the colours of the bottom photos are more vibrant (more bold).

let me get some bigger ones.

Here is a read about filters link

I really like the effect the Pol gives so I'm always using it.
With doing macros of flowers the colours are just more brilliant, so atleast for that I would suggest getting a screw-in one because a cokin on a macro isn't really workable in my eyes.

Using a £100 pol filter for protection... simply be careful, the lens is really though on his own and you need to be very unlucky to damage it and then even a filter won't help. In the old days UV filter were mostly use because colours are better then but now they aren't needed with the current coatings.

The shop do both...
I couldn't go today but will go there a monday, sorry about that.
This the site but tnot everything is on it link
You can send them an E-mail, they know me quite well so use my name and mention pentax and cokin z-pro. they probable won't answer this wekend though and I'm really going a monday, since I need the pol filter

Again thank you you are very gentle.
I would say much better and agree with you the difference is relevant!
The polarizer has been used on the R on the 1st photo and on the L on the second one, hope I'm right!

I would appreciate if you can ask the shop, maybe I will write them tomorrow.
on the same website the difference is between £39 and £115, quite a lot, I couldn't find out neither on Cokin website if there is a difference in teh quality of lenses.
I have asked specifically this on another forum, don't know if I can open a brand new post here to give more relevance to it.

I'm posting it as a summary (please correct me if there is anything not correct!):

When it comes to filters (as well as lenses) you get what you pay.

I arrived to the conclusion to buy a CPL screw-in filter (possibly from B+W,Heliopan, Hoya Pro1) for the 17-70 (as it should be nearly useless for the 12-24), while I'm going to buy a Cokin holder for square system for Grad ND and ND to be used mainly on the 12-24.

As far I read, Cokin filters are not very good (both because made of resin and for a cast effect), while Lee, Schneiders, Tiffen,Singh Ray, Hightech are much better.

Cokin holders are available as P and Z-pro series. The first one with an adaptor shouldn't produce vignetting at 14mm
(I am not sure what happens at 12mm and even at 10mm).

The difference in price between P and Z-pro is relevant: considering the kit holder + 3 ND filters, the cheapest I found is £ 40 for P Series and £115 for Z-Pro
Is this difference in price due only to the dimensions or also to the quality of filters? Are the Z series cokins filters as bad as the P ones?

Also because the single Cokin filters cost much more for the Z (£36/50) compared to the P series (£10/16).
I couldn't find it out neither on Cokins website.

The choice is important, I guess, because if I decide to buy from Cokins only the holder, the filter brands I can chose among depend also on the holder.

In fact the Lees are 100mm and fit the Cokin Z-Pro holder.
The HiTech filters are 80mm and fit the Cokin P holder.

Which other lenses fit the Z and which one the P?

You got the pol comparison photos right.

About the quality of P vs Z-pro you can find it on the cokin site
link
The filters for the Z-pro are larger and a better quality so you end up with more expensive filters.

Lee fits 100mm like you said Kodak Wratten, Schneider, Tiffen, Heliopan, Hitech, Singh Ray (also makes custom filters $$$), Formatt and probable more.

Most of those also make filters for the Cokin A (3" or 75mm) Most don't do cokin P (83mm)

you must read this

Max I've asked the shop.
They couldn't say the price for sure since they don't know if they have increase the price the last 4 months but expect it to be 60 euro or a bit more. There comes of course P&P to england with that, they ship insured and it cost me 14 euro to ship a lens to the UK a month a go.
so in all it would be 75 euro for the Z-pro set with 3 GND filters, don't forget that you need to order a mount ring to your lens with that!
You get 1 year full warranty from the shop and after that you have warranty for the expected life-time but you need to prove it wasn't your fault if something breaks.

For example a SDM motor in the lens that braks down after 5 year, you can make a case out of that.

You can simply send them an E-mail and they will make it in order and see what they can do for you.

With some luck you can have the Z-pro for £65
Also ask them for the filter I'm sure I didn't pay £36/50 for mine...

Hi Stefan, thank you for your help. those prices are very cheap, I wrote them an email.

AS Cokins looked quite expensive (£114 holder+grad nd kit +£10 adaptor), yesterday I did a research and found out that Hitech and Lee could be an alternative, slighlty more expensive, but much better quality (compared to that price)(but if Cokin are now that cheap, this may change things)
SO prices I I found are:

Holders
-lee holder £44.79
-wide angle adaptor 77mm £30.99

-Formatt hitech holder MK4 (1, 2 or 3 slots) alluminium+ring £46
-wide angle adaptor 77mm £26.81
The 105mm front ring holder is designed to accommodate the screw in polariser, and various lens hoods.

Filters
"Grad filters have to be moved up and down to position the filter correctly in the image, therfore filters that need to be moved are 100 x 150mm, and filters that do not are 100 x 100mm."

Prices:
-Lee ND grad soft/hard set 100x150 £106,35
-HItech 100x150 £85
-HItech 100x100 £59

- HItech nd kit standard 100x100 £51,00
- HItech standard single £25
- HItech High dencity single £38
-Lee single couldn't find out

Someone mentioned casting effect using more HItech filters together, and slighlty easier to be scrached, while they are cheaper and lighter.
Any advices?

BTW, Lee is experiencing some delay: "We have had some production problems, that are being resolved at the moment, but supply has been interupted, and we are currently trying to fulfil many back orders currently in our system.
I cannot tell you when the problem will be fully resolved exactly, because it is an ongoing situation, but we should be back to normal in one month.

Thank you

Hi Stefan,
I didn't hear from the shop, even if I wrote them on sunday.
Being no big difference in price between Cokin and Hitech and then between hitech and Lee, I still can't decide between holder and filters from Hitech or Lee.
Holder don't know, filters probably Hitech

hmmm they told me they would look into it for you on Wednesday, maybe sending a new email might help... sometimes
They are good people though but busy.

There really isnt a thing take make one better then the other I think, go with your own instinct on that because I dont dare to say a thing about that.

Great to here that, glad you're enjoying it.
So do you think it was worth every penny?

I've heard good things about Formatt but haven't seen much about them though.

Colors are different...in better, can't do any comparison with a cheaper one at the moment...but my idea is that "the more you spend, the less you spend"

Max, se come sei italiano ti dico in italiano (sorry guys out there...just a quick chat in italian, do excuse me), io diro di prendere cokin Z pro per forza.

Sorry everyone out there. I was just explaining that the cokin z pro system is a excellent choice for filtering. I find that the ND grad's are great. Sure there is better out there, but at the end of the day, if your a good photographer your results should be superior anyway. I also stated that for the z pro, vignetting with these types of lenses is impossible.

Molto bravo con l'italiano e scusa il ritardo!Come mai parli così bene?

Thanks for the advice but I had ordered them already, except for the ND actually,
I quite agree with your idea but as some people (not all but quite a few) after the Cokin bought the Formatt or Lee as "unsatisfied" and so I did like an investment...not to having to spend twice.
I am still waiting for them...I will let you know
