A few from the Lake District

I've just returned from a week hiking in the Lake District. The weather was pretty good for hiking but pretty challenging for photography. All taken with the K20D/Pentax DA 17-70

I like the first, the path makes a good lead into the shot!.....the rest seem unnatural in colour, not the hue's that make the Lakes "the Lakes!"

Stunning shots! I like them all, but I would rate the 3rd shot just very slightly as the best, even though it's somewhat bereft of a Lake

Thanks for the feedback...2 & 3 needed some "contrast masking" due to haze etc, a technique which I have very little experience with, any tips would be appreciated. The other 2 shots have very little PP applied

Number one for me, Simon. The rest are just too unnatural looking.
Best wishes,

Your usual high standard, Simon.

No. 1 and 4 for me, the colours seem off in no. 2 and 3. The 17-70 is something to look for, I think. (LBA lurking again).
Best regards

I like 1 and 4 (although 1 slightly more - gorgeous shot). The background hills are too blue in both 2 and 3, and the foreground hills are slightly purple-tinged in 3.

I have to stop coming on here (or at least coming on the photo-posting sections): NOT good for LBA by any means!

Totally agree. One is a cracker for me, lovely.

Number one is the best, and I agree with the comments about the rest of the shots, they do not seen right somehow.

Sorry but 2 is just too weird for me.
The light is just not 'right' in 3 & 4.
Number 1 is nice, you have captured the light that you get in the mountains, late in the day when it might just not tip it down before you get home!

Thanks for the feedback/comments although the ones commenting on shot 4 as "not right" are a bit strange, it's pretty much as shot with virtually no PP.

2 & 3 needed some hefty processing to "rescue" them due to the haze at 3000ft, my PP skills are a bit limited which probably accounts for the comments. Normally I try to catch the best lighting, this wasn't an option this time around.

As the trip was primarily a hiking one and all the shots were taken along the way I'm happy enough to have anything to bring back, as I mentioned in my first post the lighting was definitely a bit challenging

In Digital Camera magazine this month (it has a kingfisher on the front) there is a 4 page special on recovering detail and colour in hazy landscape shots with a tutorial also on a CD thats also enclosed. For your line of work it could be an invaluable £3.99 spent
Thanks for that Gareth, I'll be calling into the newsagents for a look shortly !!

2 and 3 work for me, but the small waves in 4 look a bit "funky", a nice set of photos non the less, feel a bit home sick now
