A bit slow I am

I recently had a "accident" where my son knocked my K5 onto a wooden floor with the DA 17-70 attached. I feared the worse- it was not looking good, slow to focus and the focus ring rotates in little bursts.

I took it out yesterday walking and the focus was better in good light but there is a problem with the zoom- kind of gets stuck but only sometimes and then the problem corrects itself. Cant afford a repair at the moment, ho hum.

I was really peed off when I looked through the viewfinder in bright sunlight to reveal some seriously strange blotches on the image. I figured one of the lens elements was damaged.

Took the lens off and attacjed the DA 55-300 and all was fine.

Walking the Malverns in a foul mood as I now thought the damage to the 17-70 probably terminal. Then I stopped and thought for a moment. I checked the images on the LCD no blotches, image fine.

I think they were caused by me having a polariser on the front of the lens and me doubling the effect by wearing polarised prescription sunglasses.

I cant think of any other explanation.

Needless to say I felt a bit of a drip.

What a chump.

I used to feel foolish when I made mistakes like this. Now I just feel relieved that the problem is just me being a muppet. It's invariably a lot easier and cheaper to fix than if the problem I imagined was real.

Hope you can get the focusing/zooming sorted out though.
