Long live shake reduction!

I went to the zoo yesterday with the bill payer, son and grandson (for our wedding anniversary). I took the Bigma, as the bill payer has my Tamron 28-300 on the Ds nowadays. Because we had nearly two year old Merlijn with us I didn't take the tripod - too much to lug around with him too. I did have a mini monopod, which I was able to use on some of the walls around enclosures.
However just before we left I spotted this flamingo amongst all the others, and lacking anything to rest on tried a hand held shot. Whilst not tack sharp I am happy with the result, especially bearing in mind it was shot at 500mm, F 6.7 and 1/180s.

Great composition. I like it very much.

So do I. There's a slight malevolence about that eye that just makes the shot.

flamingoes vary in colour. the greater and lesser are a shade of pink, the american are a shade of orange and the andean are a shade of purple

fantastic! to hold the bigma at full range you must have a very steady hand.
