My First Sunset

As I have never done a sunset before I decided to have a go last night.
I saw people there using tripods and suchlike but just shot a few handheld with the Sigma 135-400mm DG APO.
I have got a lot wider but it seemed about right at this length.

Anyway, looks like I will be leaving Spain to return to the Uk in a few months so I had better get busy with the camera in the meantime

The problem with sunsets is that they are such a popular genre that you need an absolutely spectacular one, plus a magnificent backdrop, to tickle the jaded palates of viewers who have seen enough sunsets to last a thousand lifetimes.

So keep trying, but remember that the bar is very high.

To be honest I have never really been interested in sunrises/sunsets for that very reason. I have a friend who has a Canon (I don't hold that against him) who I would describe as absolutely fanatical about them and he is visiting at the moment ... so first thing on his list was a sunset therefore I thought I would give it a bash.
He can do the sunrises on his own though.

I really like them, especially no3. What PP did you do, if any.

I like 3 and 4 the best. They are difficult to do well as George says, simply because they are so popular. I like sunrises more - they may not have the spectacular colours of a sunset, but they tend to have more atmosphere to them.
Try taking sunsets with the sun behind you too, to capture the golden light on the surrounding countryside/buildings. Often far better than the setting sun.
I hope you get to at least spend the winter in Spain - moving back to the UK in winter strikes me as a depressing prospect. Not that summer has been that different to winter this year, just a tad warmer

Only work done was a bit of straightening (I always seem to have that problem) and some contrast.

I like the British winter, I used to be up at 5am for work every day and actually quite miss the cold crisp dark mornings.
Saying that the wife is going back 6 months before me as we got a dog a few months ago(not thinking we were returning so soon) and I would rather not put him in kennels while waiting for his passport to be valid.
Of course this has nothing to do with be getting 6 months peace and quiet at the same time

Aha! Good luck with the dog. It seems to take forever before they can travel to the UK, but it is so much better than quarantine! Both mine are "England Proof". At least nowadays you don't also have to get them checked by the local official Vet and pay a fortune for that privilege - when I had mine done they charged something over a €100 per dog - just to read the chip and stamp a bit of paper . Now all I have to do is make sure the rabies vaccination doesn't expire.

I too like dark cold crisp mornings, but they seem, like sunny summers to be becoming a thing of the past. Certainly here in NL we have mostly just grey damp not very cold winters now. Enjoy your remaining time in Spain. It is hard being apart from the family for so long, but I hope you both cope OK.
