645D cancelled - or not

Thank you for that. Very interesting, and it all makes sense.

However, I think that an enthusiast's D645 would also have a big take-up amongst less affluent professionals - small-time wedding photographers being a good example. These are the people who bought a Pentax or Mamiya film 645 because they couldn't afford a Hasselblad.

Anyway, let it roll on. The important thing is that they find a way to use existing 645 lenses. If they don't, the owners of those lenses will be so unhappy that they would be quite likely to boycott the new camera.

Pentax have a very good track record on backwards compatibility, so I wouldn't anticipate it would be any different with the 645 systems.

I will be surprised if it goes ahead though as the numbers involved are relatively small. I'll be happy to be surprised though.

If Pentax were to make the 645D then I don't think they'd have to sell them by the boatload in order for it to have an effect on the "lesser" APS-C range - purely as a flagship. I doubt Canon, Nikon and (soon) Sony make much (any) money on their top-of-the-line FF models, but they add prestige to the cameras lower down the pecking order.

Making a 645D that's compatible with existing lenses and accessories makes a lot more sense to me than copying the big boys with their 24x36 sensors...

Well, in somebody else's opinion, pentax is bluffing (with its competitors), they will do two other aps DSLRs first, using the technologies developed during the research on 645D, and the FF is not far away. Well, just an opinion

I just thought in the interview, the pentax people did not want to let their competitors know what they plan to do, so maybe they are bluffing.

You believe there will be a 24x36 sensor from Pentax because you WANT to believe it, not because you have weighed up the arguments for and against.

If you want your opinions to be taken seriously, you should base them on facts and logic, rather than wishful thinking.

Sure you are right about proof must be found. There are rumors already from some guy with connections, something is already in testing stage (maybe not FF though), and Pentax does not want to announce may because they do not want the impact on their APS sales. Anyway, no fact provided.
