Why bother with it?

I know it's a superb lens and just what canikony owners need, but we have the DA 40.

How well does the DA40 sit on a MZ-M or Z-1?
I've heard it vignettes a little and the MZ-M can't operate the aperture.

I don't know about the MZ-M or Z-1 but on my MZ-30 there were no problems at all.

The lens is a 'full frame' one, so if the body can control the aperture then it should be OK. Maybe somebody else can advise better.

I will say that the sweet spot for the 40 is f5.6 though the image above was taken at f8.

Edited my post, the other site says it is passable on FF but not optimised for it. Still no use on the MZ-M.

In my view there are only two downsides to this lens:

(1) it is MF only, which is not to everyone's taste.
(2) it's a rather odd focal length on APS-C. But if 40mm is what does it for you, then it's an absolute gem.

Actually, I ended up getting another one after selling it first time around. I'm not convinced about the focal length on APS-C but it makes a superb portrait lens with an adapter for m4/3. The ability to use it on occasion with my Pentax is a useful bonus.

I can't see any reason it wouldn't work with the MZ-M, which has the full, "uncrippled", KA2 mount. They're superb little cameras that are considerably underestimated by Pentax purists.

How do you set the Aperture from the MZ-M body?

I have an SMC Pentax M 2.8/40 Pancake. I should use it more.

(All my SLRs are FF and have a replaceable organo-chemical sensor.:lol

It works the same as any Pentax A lens, as the Voigtlander has all the electrical connections to enable aperture setting from the body, for cameras that support that.

And sorry, I know this is a Pentax site, but the Voigtlander is in a different league from the 40/2.8 PKM pancake.

You can't set the aperture from the body of the MZM, hence lenses without an aperture ring (such as the DA 40 ltd) can onlly be used in shutter priority of program mode, not manual mode or aperture priority (or rather - in those two modes it can only be used wide open at f2.8 )

Thanks for the clarification. In which case either the Voigtlander or the 43mm FA Ltd make more sense than DA Ltd for MZM users....

Which is a stop slower

Apologies. Because of the lateness of the hour, I thought we were still talking about the Voigtlander. As others have said, there's no way of setting the aperture on the MZ-M body.
