Kiron 28mm f/2

I have this lens, bought some years ago & used on my MX for interior shots of my joinery work.

I thought I'd try it on the K7, but the aperture blades are sticking(?)

Is it worth getting it fixed, in respect of the (potential) quality of image produced?

Any idea how much?

It shouldn't be too hard to sort out, as it's a prime. Generally they seem to work in terms of unscrewing the front element group to access the aperture blades. Use a cotton bud to put a dab of lighter fuel on them then work the aperture a few times, this should clean any oil off. You may also need to give the same treatment to the mechanism under the lens mount (usually held on by a few screws).

As for whether it's worth it, I'd say yes as you already have the lens. Generally 3rd party primes aren't bad, and f2 is faster than the average 28mm.

One thing to check first - you have got the K7 in Manual mode and you are pressing the green button for stop down metering? In Av the camera won't stop the lens down no matter what you set the aperture ring to.

I've never taken a lens apart before but, as you say, I have the lens & therefore little to lose in trying!

coker, I have a vivitar version of this kiron 28/2 lens that I mostly use on my K200d and P30. It's worth getting it fixed, but I personally would leave it to someone with skills. These 28/2 lenses are getting quite rare to find these days...

This Kiron lens is well known for often having issues with oil on the blades. It must be a design problem, so not sure if there is a long term fix.

It's purely down to the quality of the grease they use. The grease has to break down first only then does the way the lens is designed come into the equation. It's a common problem with Olympus lenses as well.
