I've several of the silver version and all work fine, giving good results.
The lens was one of the 'kit' options for the MZ range of film cameras and suffered from 'soft' edges on 35mm, not a problem with digital.

Lens, lens, lens!
I thought one thing kids today learnt was how to spell four-letter words.
But it seems I was wrong.

I tried it briefly (black version) but wasn't impressed, it just seemed soft and the colours were a bit washed-out. The F 35-70mm was much better.

Ex Wikipedia. "The variant spelling lense is sometimes seen. While it is listed as an alternative spelling in some dictionaries..."
I thought one thing kids today learnt was how to be tolerant about minor matters. After all what is communication. I think we all got the idea.
When was spellchecking, english correction, and pointing out typographical errors important in photography. Or is it that someone really hates the 35-80 lense.

Sad to see it go, but makes room for an eventual upgrade to the K5 or the K4?

Although the English language is constantly evolving and changing, I've not come across this particular mutation and might not be inclined to trust Wikipedia in this instance.Ex Wikipedia. The error developed, I think, as a result of some people seeing the plural of lens (lenses) then simply removing the final 's' in the mistaken belief that this will form the singular.
I know nothing about the lens in question but I think, on this occasion, George was right: spelling matters, as do grammar and punctuation, whether photography, botany, or football is the subject.
Typographical errors are common to us all with advancing age and kindly members tend to let these slide...thank goodness.
Please don't take this personally: it was, I am sure, kindly meant. We are all learning new things every day, it's one of the thing which makes us human.
Best wishes,
Andrew

Even 20 years ago, I was told the word "kids" was patronising. Lens, lens, lens!

It's also accepted that starting a sentence with a conjunction is wrong. But, having got over that and also ignoring the bounds of the hypocrite's rule book we can forgive differences of people outside our own little enclaves.
George, you are in favour of throwing away the rule book when it suits you? It's a shame not to afford others the same licence.
It's a forum for pentax. not a forum for pedantix.

Please get back to the original point of the thread. Now the title says lens we can all hopefully relax and get back on topic?
Pointing out a spelling error is one thing, but let's not descend into personal insults.

I have owned and used the Silver 35-80, but it almost clashed with the 18-55 kit
lens, so I moved it on. Sold for £5 on Fleabay !
Its definatley an OK lens. I didnt see much problem with it. If i hadnt owned the kit lens too, i would have kept it. It was certainly worth more than £5.

However tried it briefly on the K20D and Kr. Quite a decent lense, good quick autofocus, exposure a touch light sometimes, but very pleased in comparison with the 17-55 and 55-300 new kit lenses.
Any one else had these experiences.
Oh cheap as well.
