I am hopeful of stock late this week or the beginning of next week. Price TBC but it will be offered at a special price for anyone who pre-ordered / has ordered a K-5 from us!

Will update once stocks are here.

I read in another place yesterday that someone in Hereford has had his sticky mits on an 18-135 at his local pro dealer, so I'm expecting to take that slow train from Euston to Watford any day now.

About time too, much as I have enjoyed using the primes, I am zoomless, and changing lenses is not always quick enough.

I have been invited to go to SRS to pick up my 18-135 kit lens. No idea if they are available separately, but nice price for the kit.

Hmmm .. wonder how much Chris is charging for the lens on it's own.

Saw some pics of it on the other forum, it's only slightly bigger than 18-55mm kit lens.

I asked how much it would be when I was in the shop a couple of weeks ago - was told "around £500"

Not too bad price wise, I wonder if it's any quieter when focusing than the 18-55 kit lens?

I should hope so!

The DC motor is some variation of SDM, so It should be virtually silent.

According to the user on the other forum the motor is totally silent and MUCH faster than SDM. The focus ring is also close to the camera body rather than in the usual place.

That was my experience of it at Photokina too.

I am still tempted by it, but feel I'd have to sell something to buy it, and I don't want to sell any of the lenses at the mo.
The obvious one to go would be my little used 50-135*, but I know it makes no sense selling a * to buy a kit lens really. Alternatively I could sell the 17-70 I guess. I probably wouldn't miss that 1mm at the wide end - or would I?

Are you being annoying on purpose? This is the reason why people ignore so many of your posts Stefan. You KNOW the answer to this. I've seen you post messages about the DC motor at least a dozen times.

Grow up, little boy.

Indeed and I know that I don't know what kind of motor it is that's why I'm asking you, since you seem to know.

I know there is a patent out there for a brushless DC motor but Pentax or anyone else has not yet confirmed that that motor is used in the DA 18-135mm WR.

The only thing i can find from Pentax is Direct Current (DC) motor supports quick, quiet autofocus operation but all motors used inside the camera are direct current because it only has DC power from the battery so that doesn't say much.

Since you said it's a variation of the SDM does that mean it's an ultrasonic motor?
