"The Anomaly" at Brighton

Here's a photo I took of Brighton sometime last year. I must say that I fell in love with the place, and will definitely try to visit it many more times this year.

Now take notice of the "anomaly" in the upper center part of the image. Notice that it actually is part of the entire sky.

Here's the original photo for comparison:

The photo is actually comprised of several images stitched together. Checking the original individual images show that it's always been there.

Can anyone tell me what in the world are those things?

Again, here's the "anomaly", close up:

Thanks for looking, and hope to hear your thoughts on this!

Not a clue... did it look like that in the non stitched shots? I would have guessed it was caused by the stitching software...

When I do black and white conversions I sometimes get horrible stepped contours of tone in the sky, but nothing like this!

Romulan ship about to de-cloak?

I get a bit fed up of these flippant, half humorous remarks.

Don, DONT be so silly

Its obvious its a Klingon Warbird

Alan, I dont know about the Anomaly but these are quite noisy for what appears to be quite a bright day with plenty of light?

Couldn't it be the air/heat bending the light, something like a thermal?

sadly we are screwed either way... William Shatner outgrew and hung up his Star-fleet uniform, and now has a new tv series called "$h!t captain Kirk says" or something like that...

Now your being silly Stefan, Brighton is in the UK, we dont get thermals

I think it would be intersting to see the images seperately, especially the ones either side of the one with the problem, I thought it was dirty sensor but why is only one image affected.

Sensor's never been swiped. I've only ever used a rocket blower, and only found the need to do so a few times ever since owning the camera.

The pattern was already there before I stitched the photos together. Noise from the close-up image is the effect of post-processing and Genuine Fractals enlarging software (LOL).

Thermal events happening in the atmosphere? Should be a very good possibility. Might need to send this off to the government's "UFO Files".

Love the Star Trek references. Let's just hope it's not a Romulan!

Well it doesn't look like one of those sprite thingies (although I must they are pretty cool), it doesn't look like a UFO, and its not one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse. Stefan's explanation makes most sense to me, unless it's some sort of sensor issue. Would be interested to see other shots with the phenomenon at around the same time.

Frankly, I think you're both being silly. It looks more like a Shadow Vessel from Babylon 5 to me.

You're all wrong. It's obviously the giant squid-spirit which has been dragging ships under for hundreds of years. I don't see how it could be anything else.

It looks almost as if you were behind a glass window when taking this shot, and what is visible here is the reflection.

If not, then did you have any filters etc in front of your lens per chance?

I was using the Tammy 28-300 on that day. I have to grab the photos from the main backup hard drive ifyou guys want to see it. But this pattern was already there before I stitched this up.

This is a 3 by 2 photo by the way. Stitched in Photoshop CS3.

Thanks to everyone so far for the conments. This is the second "anomaly" I was lucky (?) to witness last year. I'll post the video of the second one in the general forums later this evening.
