effects lenses wanted for mz 6 - novice requires lenses
If you mean by repeating lens a multi-image attachment, this is a filter type that can be found in the Cokin range and others. The fish eye effect can be reproduced relatively cheaply with one of the fish eye attachments that screw into the filter thread - they give an ultra-wide effect with a stand...

Manufacturing Quality
A couple of days ago a customer of mine came along with his camera kit and offered it to me for the "derisory" offer that he had received for it as a part exchange. So, for £20 he offered me a Yashica FRI, FRII, 50mm lens, 135mm lens, ring flash, filters, Yashica winder and all the bits and pieces t...

Can someone please explain the depth of field preview thing
Quite a few professionals writing in magazines over the years would agree with you, Peter! Probably it doesn't help when using a 20mm f4 lens and peering through a red filter.....(Sometimes it's hard to see anything under those circumstances!)

Hello from New Jersey (USA): K-1000 filter query
Dear Friends: If I am out of line, please excuse me-- this is my first post. Been shooting for years, yet still consider myself an advanced beginner. LOVE my K-1000. Would someone be so kind and recommend a basic set of filters that I should purchase? I like the look of the romantic/soft fi...

Hello from New Jersey (USA): K-1000 filter query
It depends upon the sort of photography that you like. As a suggestion, though, I would propose these: Landscapes: Orange for moderate effect, red for more dramatic skies. Portraits outdoors: Green for good skin tones. General use: yellow to correct tones Colour: 81A to warm up pictures ...

Hello from New Jersey (USA): K-1000 filter query
I'd recommend using the Cokin filter system, this means that you can use the filters on all your lenses using the holder rather than buying one of each filter for each lens. www.cokin.com I use the P series so I can swap between 35mm and medium format.

Hello from New Jersey (USA): K-1000 filter query
The ones below with two stars indicate that I also find these very useful for digital as well as film. ** polarizer * 81A, B or C ** neutral desity graduated gray square filter and there are a few nice to have ones: ** ND (non-grad) filter * 85 * 82 ** sunset or other square graduated f...

polarizing filter
Seeking your expertise. I am using a MZ5N camera. In fact I have jsut started using an autofocus camera. I find that the polirizing filter does not seem to make much difference... certainly not as much as with my old manual camera? Ha anyone any idea why?

polarizing filter
Make sure you are using a circular polarizing filter with autofocus lenses. As you've used these filters before I shouldn't have to mention the camera being 90 degrees to the sun's axis for best results.

polarizing filter
Indeed. It does seem straightforward. I have bought a circular filter and am aware of the 90 degrees rule... I just don't seem to get the lovely skies and colours I used to get with my old manual camera and I wondered if there was something I should know about using filters with an autofocus. T...

MV1 - I have no idea what I'm doing...
Hi Kim That is a beautiful camera, the 1.4 lens, the filter, the sync caps, the lens cap... not a mark. If the 'next' button had worked on the reptillian MX page then I would have happily viewed more. All the best! Simon P.S. - Do you have the matching snakeskin boots and stetson?

ME Super - What Polarising Filter?
Hello All! Probably everybody already knows but could someone tell me whether I can use a linear polarising filter with my ME Super or would I need one of the circular ones. Also should I choose a Cokin type filter or a Hoya screw on type? Thanks!

ME Super - What Polarising Filter?
Linear is fine. Buying a Cokin will enable you to use the filter on lenses with different filter sizes. If you have, or plan to get, several lenses with different filter sizes, this would be the more economical path to take. Buy the P type, which can be used on larger lenses.

ME Super - What Polarising Filter?
Hi Linear polarisers tend to mess up Autofocus modules (which have an internal linear polariser, so I'm told), the ME Super doesn't have Autofocus so linear will be fine. If you're ever planning on getting an Autofocus camera it might be worth investing in a circular polariser though. Rein...

ME Super - What Polarising Filter?
I think it's a pity to have a Super-Multi-Coated Pentax lens and then add an uncoated piece of optical grade plastic on the front. As a consequence, I only use Multi-coated glass filters, always a lens hood, and if at all possible even the filters are either Pentax, B&W or Heliopan.

ME Super - What Polarising Filter?
Hi John Unfortunately Pentax etc. don't make the 'system 'filters, hence a few might be needed of each if you have an extensive lens collection, although I agree that they are top notch - I have a Hoya circualr polariser and this is also surprisingly good. If you can afford to get such filters a...

ME Super - What Polarising Filter?
I think Matt has given a very extensive and extremely good summary - excellent stuff. In the days of the Spotmatic Pentax made a "Ghostless" filter, only as a UV I think, and this has a curved construction of the same angle as the front element of the 50mm lens. The idea was to reduce any deviati...

Motordrive vs winder and other questions
Hi everyone, I've got a question about the difference between a motordrive (specifically Motor Drive A) and a winder, e.g:ME II - why does one cost around £100+ and the other around £35+? What does the motor drive do that the winder doesn't? I'm about to become the owner of a P50, which can...
