Sony 16-50 oss vs Pentax 18-55 kit lens

the new Sony A6000 is due out in a few weeks time, with what looks to be blisteringly fast AF and a 24MP sensor, might be worth holding off until then.

Topaz DeNoise v LR

Yes that's true, but it's the detail/noise balance that I am concerned with. Topaz has just smeared it and made everything look plastic. If it was a critical image I could apply local variations. I haven't really given Topaz (free trial) a fair shot at this, but looking at my own test of the way I ...

Megapixels

Hey, when reading about Sigma cameras it says it's 15 MPx sensors are actually equivalent to 46 Mpx sensors as every pixel has 3 layers each being R, B or G. So does this mean that for example the K3 sensor which uses classical Bayer with 24 MPx sensor creates an image that has less than 8 milli...

Megapixels

This is all highly debatable. A sensor such as used in the K-3 has 24 MP, but the sensor is overlaid by a pattern of coloured filters called a Bayer pattern. That's because sensors are black and white by nature. So, small groups of pixels are interpolated to "guess" the colour at each pixel. Then it...

Megapixels

wow, didn't know there is a colour filter over the sensor, always thought the light sensors were sensitive to a specific frequency of light. So if the final image is 24 MP, then the amount of physical light sensors is somewhere around 72 million? Cheers

Megapixels

See here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bayer_filter for info. That 24Mp (mono pixel) sensor eventually produces a 24Mp RGB image with the colour values being interpolated between pixel sites. So that 24Mp sensor is equivalent to anywhere between an 8Mp and 24Mp perfect RGB sensor depending on what...

Flashmeter

Sorry to hear about your beloved flashmeter would these flashmeters measure the same light as your sensor in your camera in the day light or would the meter give off a more correct reading. Regards Dave

REALLY CHEAP INK

Thanks folks. I may give a set a try. I suppose if you give the head a good clean before use it may be OK. It just means more ink will get wasted in the cleaning process????? CHEERS Vic.

Macro

Ken, List what lenses you have and I'm sure you'll get some help as to what might be best. Just because a lens says macro on it doesn't mean it is "macro". I think the accepted definition is 1:1 replication so the subject is replicated on the sensor at life size. ( take a look at Nass' s...

Need some help with regards to shooting wide open

Focussing on the eye will lead to miss focus as the front of the eye is clear the camera will actually focus on the rear of the eye ball. Instead focus on the eyebrow, sharp brows always show sharp eyes. +1 I've been thinking about this and can't really see how that can be so. The area read by the A...

Need some help with regards to shooting wide open

I would agree that the chances of an AF sensor being small enough and the photographer accurate enough to have the AF focus on the back ofthe eye to be exceedingly slim. As for my f/1.2 shots of the lady, no she didn't beat me to a pulp afterwards :)

Compact System or Compact camera?

I finally got into a camera shop to have a look - sadly, no MX-1s or Ricohs to play with! I did have a try of the Canon Powershot, the viewfinder was as bad as Jon had suggested, utterly dreadful. The Fuji X10 was much, much nicer, but there is some concern over image quality of its RAW files (f...

Which is best, film or digital?

I think everyone else has said it... Anyone that says film is less messing than digital hasn't developed colour film! Don't get me wrong, there's a genuine satisfaction in film and I still love the results you can obtain, but I think this guy is guilty of offering a poor explanation for his pr...

Which is best, film or digital?

As others have said, a meaningless (and unanswered) poll. If you're used to a particular film and well practiced in exposing, processing and printing it, then it could be easier than using a less well practiced digital camera. All film cameras will record the same image on the same emulsion in the a...

Mx-1 flash question

One of cubes might be interesting... allows ignoring the preflash. Not sure how that would work, slave flash units have their own sensor. However, there is no pre-flash when using the GODOX flash set to S2 with the camera's flash settings as shown.

Mx-1 flash question

It could work with a dumb flash that has no sensor.

Mx-1 flash question

Not sure how that would work, slave flash units have their own sensor. It's no problem. You set the flash to "A" or "M" (not slaved) and use the cube to trigger it. The flash knows nothing - thinks it's being triggered from an old camera ;) However, there is no pre-flash when using the GODOX flas...
