Not a K-5 sensor problem...

This is not a fault - it is just 'junk' data recorded on the edge of the image which I think always happens but is normlly excluded by the software. For some reason some programmes - including Picasa - show this data when using RAW files, if you crop below that line - you will probably find the size...

Was that your last bottle of beer? If so, it puts minor problems into perspective. G Funnily enough, it was someone else's, which I nevertheless did drink. It would have been rude not to, given that her 14 year old daughter had just been having a look at my K-5, and proceeded to assert that...

Now there's a niche Pentax could exploit - the Flattercam! Guaranteed to make fat women thin, and old curmudgeons young and hunky. G

Not a K-5 sensor problem...

I remember this coming up before on the lauch of the K-5. There seems to be some extra data in the RAW file that some programs interpret as pixels to the left of the image. They may be part of the NR mechanism, additional pixels cut from access to preserve the correct ratio or something else. Not...

Full Frame for the Insecure?

'Hi, I am going full frame so my gear has to go' - sound familiar? I'm wondering if some people move to full frame because they feel insecure about their equipment, or think it will magically turn them into professionals? Do they stand at a view point and feel insecure because the guy next to t...

Full Frame for the Insecure?

More cost, more weight, more sensor, but more quality? Debatable. At the end of it, it's their money, and if buying into FF gives them more confidence, etc, good for them. Hopefully in the process they'll be selling quality Pentax kit at the right price :D Me? The quality of my photography...

Full Frame for the Insecure?

When I moved to a Digital SLR (KX and now KR) I bought into Pentax precisely because of the progress in APS C sensor quality especially low light ISO performance and dynamic range combined with the extremely compact bodies, system and value for money. I fully understand Pro friends buying 35mm si...

ie without the 1.5 crop which makes their focal length less useful and increases dof. Can someone explain this? I've heard it said many times, but I don't understand it. The out-of-focus-ness of the subject is surely the same on the sensor, with the same lens at the same distance from the came...

One could also argue that it depends what you shoot, I would not consider FF simply because my 500mm would be too short, I often find myself cropping by 1/3 to 1/2 of the frame as it is, I doubt even FF would allow me to crop even further and benefit from any extra IQ the sensor may offer.

Full Frame for the Insecure?

I know a lot of pros who use both ff & crop sensors, reason??? Simply for the FOV on crop sensor body, stick a 400mm f4 & it becomes a 600mm fov, price between a ff body & 600mm compared to a crop sensor & 400mm a few Łk's FF does one job, crop bodies do another, if you need ff then get a differe...

Full Frame for the Insecure?

It's not something which keeps me awake at night but it would be great to bolt on, say, a 28mm lens and look through the viewfinder at a true wide angle view. (Although a FF sensor would surely show up the low quality of most of my lenses!) Where telephoto fans gain with a cropped sensor, landsca...

Full Frame for the Insecure?

Where telephoto fans gain with a cropped sensor, landscape enthusiasts are short changed, but, as I say, it's not a big deal for me, really, which is just as well, as I'll never be able to afford a FF body. Funny I was discussing this with my landscape enthusiast pal at work this afternoon, I was up...
