BTDT in Egypt and it was hot I'll grant. Mad dogs and Englishmen time though - I went out for a walk in the midday and met some really nice guys sitting in the shade the cissies! Enjoying the dig? Do you see measurable progress while out there or is it only when you look at results back home it a...

Pentax S1a Repair

For an on line service manual see The S3 one covers your model, and the password is 'Pentax'. These manuals are freely available, but some jokers cut them onto CD and sell them on ebay. Don't buy of ebay, download and print it out, although it's a large document at 54 pages it's worth doing....

Pentax S1a Repair

Incipiently I got 3 Spotmatic sp500s as spares or repair, 2 work fine, the third doesn't focus to infinity. Try playing with the bodies first, they might just need a clean if your lucky.8) Well you never know :D whats the best thing to lubricate any moving parts inside the camera?

Pentax S1a Repair

Well, it turned out that they weren't too fiddley for me to fix! :D I'm not sure how to explain how I fixed them, but after removing the bottom plate on each and had a poke around, they both had the same problem - the shutter was ready to be released but it wouldn't. I moved a small plate at the ...

Pentax S1a Repair

I remember years ago being told that's how IBM used to operate. I don't know if it is true but apparently they would sell a company a mainframe with all the bells and whistles built in but not enabled, so they could sell them the 'upgrade' and apparently all they then did was go into their mainframe...

A new film camera please!

Well....I bought an MZ-60 a fews back for £20 - works fantastically well with my lenses, especially the DA*50-135. I use it in AV priority mode, and feel quite at home when using it. It certainly employs some of the modern features we have in our DSLR's.

A new film camera please!

I have a mint condition MZ-6 I have been contemplating selling, I purchased it off a lady who was planning on getting into SLR photography but she never got hooked. She only ran 2 films through it and I have put another 2 through it. It has the Data back and comes with its user manual, body cap ...

crop factor, focal lengths, digital and 35mm lens compatibility

All Pentax bayonet lenses can be used without restriction, and screw thread ones with the appropraite adapter (Adapter K) - the only lenses that might cause a problem are the DA digital lenses that do not have enough coverage for the larger 35mm film frame. All lenses will work within their feature ...

MZ Series Cameras Wanted

I recently sold my MZ-S but I could probably loan you my MZ-6 if you get stuck. It's not for sale though. I'll be returning to UK in late September, if you want me to bring it back with me, let me know. If you need one sooner than that, my Canon using son also has an MZ-6 that I'm sure you cou...

MZ Series Cameras Wanted

Hi John, I've probably got most of these in stock apart from the MZ-S. Also have a few with the 'usual' floppy flash fault which would photograph ok. I've been on holiday this week but will check when I am back in the shop on Tuesday. Would be happy to lend or sell at a bargain price :) Chris

MZ Series Cameras Wanted

Luca - not selling either of my MZ-Ss - they are my main film cameras. But to give you an indication, my recollection is that they both cost me close to £400 with the grip - all bought separately off E-bay a couple of years back. The grip is the rarer element. You may be lucky and pick up a set...

MZ Series Cameras Wanted

A film only comp would be fun, but I expect a lot of entries would be drawn from our archives (and it would cause confusion for the uninitiated - lot of Minolta or Nikon exif data would show up as our scanners leave their signature on everything :)) Agree - film makes you spend a bit more time se...

the moon problems

What you need is accurate focusing I'm not trying to be pedantic but surely focussing at infinity would be fine, or am I missing something? Yes. Infinity focus on most lenses is set by a simple screw creating a mechanical stop. The setting of that stop can often be less than accurate and some lense...

the moon problems

Yes I agree Peter, the last shots I tried with the Bigma were all out of focus so this time I will only use manual focus, although it could have been haze, anyway I am determined to get a good shot this time, Jack.

the moon problems

so this time I will only use manual focus Aim to get the focusing ring in the middle of the (very small) range over which you get the focus confirmation hexagon displayed. Take lots of exposures, and re-focus after each one. Don't assume that because you haven't touched anything, nothing's moved...
