Total beginner in Fareham
Welcome azcry - you have bought an excellent camera and although there is a steep learning curve with DSLRs you will find a lot of of interest here and help too when you ask for it. Most important thing to do is a) read the manual from front to back and then read it again b) take lots of photos a...

a potential convert
Hello All, Just wanted to say a quick hello to everyone. I am not a Pentax user - YET! I have been a Canon man for over forty years (yes, I am an ode git!) but I will be having a close look at the remarkable K5 very soon and I suspect I will be joining the ranks as a result. I look forward to...

Hello and regards from Switzerland
Dear PENTAX friends, just to say hello as newly joining member I'm living in Switzerland, at the lake of Zurich. My connection to PENTAX goes back about a quarter of a century, when I got PENTAX LX, together with an underwater housing. Due to various reasons, this relay top gear is not in ...

Another New Pentax SLR in London
Thanks people - I was thinking about one of the really old wide primes, but they are obviously hugely rare. The DA15 LTD - is that a current lense? Because of the focal length I didn't think auto focus would be important, so the older ones looked like a good option, although I wonder if I should be ...

Another New Pentax SLR in London
I used to own the Samyang 14mm Nikon mount on a D90. It was a very sharp lens. Nicely built except for the built-in plasticky petal type hood. focus ring was nice and smooth. The lens suffers from moustache style distortion which could be quite strong, not a problem for landscape really but no good ...

Another New Pentax SLR in London
Well the version I had was manual focus only, which didnt bother me too much as i focus manually for landscape anyway. It did indeed have the aperture ring. So maybe the new version has the auto setting, something you would have to look into. I think photozone.de do a review of the lens.

Bye
I'd just lurk for a while. We've had people leave saying they would never some back. Some of them have missed the place and done a u turn. Or even came back with another user id, making no mention of their previous membership (embarrased maybe - I don't know). Easier just to hang around for a wh...

How di do
Hi Rob. Not all lenses have 'macro' capabilities which is the ability to focus very close. Most lenses are a compromise in one way or another. As for birds in the sky my advice is to wait for an overcast day. You'll find it much easier.

How di do
Hi Rob and welcome to the forums, I am unfamiliar with the Tamron lens you mention, but most lenses have a distance at which they can focus correctly. This is called the close focusing distance and I believe it is 18inches. For macro you need to shoot around f11 and above to achieve a resonable...

How di do
Hi Rob Welcome to the forum, enjoy the experience. There is a vast amount of help within here. The closest your lens will focus down to is approx 0.5m, any closer than this and you will not get results. Birds in flight present more of a problem, you really need some good light but perhaps m...

Hello from South Hampshire
Hello, I've just joined this Pentax Forum. I trained as a Photographer in the Navy back in the 70's so was professional for about 6 years. I've always used Pentax and was nervous of the digital age but recently plunged in with a K200D until I got to grips with photoshop then progressed to a K5. ...

K7 f setting in manual - makes no difference
As Matt has written, only 'A' Series lenses and newer can have their aperture set by the body. Lenses older than 'A' series ('M', 'K') need to have the aperture set on the lens and use stopped down metering for correct exposures. I suggest you first clean the electrical contacts on your camera an...

K7 f setting in manual - makes no difference
Thanks for all that but I obviously didn't explain in enough depth. I have no problem shooting with any of my pre-digital lenses. With my 'digitally optimised' lenses, and shooting on manual, I can set the f stop anywhere from 3.5 to 40 and it makes no difference to exposure or depth of field. I...

K7 f setting in manual - makes no difference
A repair would likely cost a high proportion of a new lens, considering the price that SRS are offering the WR version for. I tried to open a lens once, be warned there can be lots of pesky ball bearings and small springs to unleash themselves at you....putting them back is a trick in itself.
