Forum Newbie :)
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! :D @Transit : well, I have thought of buying focusing screen to help in focusing, but I'll just search around the forums first and look for others opinions first and for now I'll just have to keep learning using stock one (as stated by Opethian, anticipate th...

Forum Newbie :)
....I have thought of buying focusing screen to help in focusing, but I'll just search around the forums first and look for others opinions first... yeah the focus screen is setup to be bright but the actual focus is vague. I got a Canon Ee-s screen for my K-5 made good gains. But as you say, work...

New Pentax owner
Hi all, just popped over from ephotozine as I now own my first DSLR, a Pentax k-r which I got for Christmas. The only downside is I've been working since then and haven't had a chance to swot up on it. Now I know forums get annoyed with people who ask questions before researching them but I'm due t...

Hi guys, just an update on what I have decided to purchase - having looked at various models of Pentax I was told of a Pentax k10d with Pentax 18-55 lens + 70-300 lens plus uv filters, carry bag, all leads, handbook etc. with asking price within my budget and now the happy owner of this kit and very...

New year, new member, new camera
Well I for example wanted to try macro. I bought an old 35 - 80 kit zoom from a film SLR (£20 from Rocky Cameras), added cheap manual extension tubes (£7.99)and meter using the green button with of course manual focus. Works a treat. I of course now want a posh macro lens! :-)

New year, new member, new camera
Darren there are loads of old lenses out there, some are fantastic quality and very cheap! If you don't mind manual focus I would recommend the following: - Any of the M42 mount Takumars (adaptors needed, but these are cheap and I keep one permanently on each lens, making them as convenient as ...

New year, new member, new camera
Darren - to give a beginners-eye view on what's been said above (and hence will almost certainly be corrected by the old hands) the mount Pentax use (i.e. the method by which lenses fit to their cameras) - called the K-mount - has remained pretty much the same since 1975. Hence any Pentax K-mount le...

New year, new member, new camera
No errors as far as I can see - it all looks spot-on! Might be worth mentioning that if you get an adaptor ring to use an old M42 mount lens, make sure it is one that fits flush and does not protrude beyond the camera mount, otherwise you will lose the ability to focus on infinity. Regards Davi...

Pentax camera choice
I bought the KR last spring from SRS in black with the very nice MkII 18 - 55mm, same optics but metal bayonet and quick focus. I like it better than the plastic kit offering I had with my earlier KX to handle. I also have the 55- 300mm DA. Again the kit DAL is said o be optically the same but pl...

Pentax camera choice
Firstly great choice with Pentax! This isn't so straight forward, i originially had a kx before upgrading to a K5, but have also used the kr. The kx is an awesome camera, even though the kr has a higher ISO setting, the kx has less noise at an equivalent ISO. However, i will make your choice ea...

New member with a new K5
Good choice, Sasha. I would just venture one word (well, OK, about sixty) of advice. Point and shoot cameras are designed to produce usable images straight from the camera. Serious cameras can be set up to do the same, but they are capable of much more. The secret is to learn the rudiments o...

Hello...finally
Some great shots on your Flickr pages, Simon. I especially love the Italian pics, in particular Monte Vesuviano, as I used to find myself "despatched" to Napoli, Pomigliano D'Arco (the Fiat/Alfa factory), or Sorrento on quite a number of weekends on courier hand-carries and would spend my waking hou...

Hello...finally
I don't think I've posted a Durham Cloisters picture but I have one in my portfolio here and on PPG in the cloisters at Canterbury Cathedral. That was taken on the Sigma 10-20mm David. Apologies David, I didn't read the title! Do you use the Sigma a lot? I love the effect it gives, albeit I'm learn...

Old Asahi Pentax
The Spotmatic lenses will be an M42 mounting, that's a 42mm screw thread. All Pentax cameras since the Spotmatic use a bayonet mount, Pentax K or PK mount. You can use the older M42 mount lenses on the PK mount cameras by using a mount adapter like this . (You can sometimes pick them up second ...
