The prices of many items in the UK are, frankly, an outrage. Essentially we are 'ripped off' at every corner..... I would like to aquire a K10D and may well do so but need to get a better price than is currently available in the UK, bearing in mind that it is now an obsolete camera and will bec...

You should complain Viewfinder. The cheapest price for a K10D in Holland is €598, which is GBP452 or USD880

Hi Gwyn, £450 is the 'average' discount price here as well with most of the big retailers selling at £479 with kit zoom. It's only SRS who are showing a low price and that is only in the last few days,..they were asking £429 (body only) before that. It would'nt be quite so bad if one was sure...

452GBP is the cheapest price here - most are still offering it at around 500GBP or more. OK we get a two year guarantee on it for that but it is still a ridiculous price compared to the Uk or the US. If it wasn't such a big step up from the Ds I'd proabably wait until my holiday in the US in May ...

Hi Pete,...thanks for your message, however I can't share either your view or your logic unfortunately,...I only wish I could. "........If you buy a new K10D from the UK now, and sell in three years time, the net cost to you may be less than £200, perhaps less than £150.." In three y...

Viewfinder, no one is forcing you to buy the next super duper new model every year. People didn't do that with analogue cameras so why should you with digital. If you are happy with your camera why change it just because the next model offers a few more Mp? So what if it offers liveview or an electr...

In three years time K10D will be a piece of valuless junk. Oh really? My *istD is neither junk nor valueless, and it is four years old. From the beginning, I found it to be slow to write to the card, and that is really it's only significant drawback. The K10D solves that problem, and that is th...

I'm unwilling to pay thru the nose to get tommorows valuless junk, should i wish to trade it in, or more likely, need to get it repaired. By the same logic, if a repair was uneconomical, you could always get a replacement secondhand body for peanuts. I justified 'going digital' by working out how...

I did not expect the reaction I saw with my previous question. Anyway, right now in Montreal, the K10d is going for CAN$700.00 and the K10d with the Pentax 16-45 is going for CAN$950.00. I'm pretty sure you could "discuss" with the seller to shave another $40 or $50. So, I guess I shoul...

Viewfinder, Pentax may well bring out several more models during the next three years but they are unlikely to be better in every way than the K10D. For one example, they may not have a pentaprism. This will apply to the K200D, for example. The K10D has built up enough of a reputation for it to...

Just a few thoughts Without a Monitor/Keyboard/Mouse is your old PC consuming that much power? Do you have options in the PC bios to shut down unused peripherals, ports or maybe even throttle back the processor? Does FreeNas allow the machine to be woken up from a low power standby state? ...

Without a Monitor/Keyboard/Mouse is your old PC consuming that much power? I doubt it's much less than with them, the monitor would take most, kbd & mouse next to nothing. Do you have options in the PC bios to shut down unused peripherals, ports or maybe even throttle back the processor? I do...

Looks like JBOD is spanning - multiple drives in one partition, rather than RAID 0 which is striped. . I wouldn't put data you care about on either, since if any one of the disks fails, it's gone. With 3 disks you could go for Raid5 quite nicely, or Raid1 with the 3rd being an offsite backup, si...

Another newbie
Hello all, After joining this forum recently, I suppose it is considered polite to introduce oneself. My first name is (obvously) Terje, which I convert to Terry when speaking English. I live in Horten, a small town about 60 miles south of Oslo. Even though I have passed 60, I still work full ...

Pentax Teleconverter
Appreciate the point. I do a lot of safari stuff in East Africa and whilst I know you are right there are times when that extra focus obtained on a 300mm via a teleconverter will pick something up otherwise missed. Otherwise do you have a recommendation for a 500=600mm zoom that will not break the b...

Pentax Teleconverter
If you have a 4.0/300mm you can go for the Pentax A 1.4x L or the Pentax A 2.0x L. The large versions are specialy designed for use with 300 mm and above. The (S)mall versions are designed for 85 till 200mm. And these would mean no AF on the K10D obviously. There is a Pentax 1.7 AF converter but yo...
