I had company today!

Well you're welcome any time you're this way. Or I'll let you know if I'm ever back in Oz. We did Sydney, Blue Mountains, east coast, Magnetic Island, Cairns and Alice Springs about 12 years ago - loved it. That's what prompted me to get an SLR (not until I got back home though), we sta...

I had company today!

I have spent many nights camping out in the Gross Valley at Blackheath. You get a wonderful view from the top of Govetts leap and Evans Lookout. Did you walk down those stairs into the valley, you should try it with a 30kilo pack on your back :!: Yeah those snakes can be a problem, i always sleep...

I had company today!

We stayed here http://www.jembyrinjahlodge.com.au/index.html , don't think they'd been open too long as it was all new, and they didn't have a restaurant then. Fed Rainbow Lorikeets on the balcony, listened to the Currawong (sound really odd, like robot noises or something  ), huddled in the c...

I had company today!

If you do came back you have to get out to the red centre it is such a vast and empty place but plenty to photograph you wont be disapointed. I love they way the locals out there give you directions. You follow this road for about 200kms and take the first on your left and follow that road for ano...

I had company today!

If you look at Uluru, 32nd little ridge from the left, that's where I proposed! :D Here's a view of the trip back down! See the tiny coaches. This was taken some time after, not the best light, and the compact we had didn't cope too well with the sunset the night before. ...

I had company today!

Man that would have been a feat on one leg its very steep for the first third of the climb. I got a bad case of bursting bladder and got back down in record time  But what a place to propose very romantic.

Computer Upgrade

Graphics cards can only be used for 3D work or games. There are a select few applications which can use them for other things but these are mostly scientific floating point apps. Video work on a GPU is done by a small dedicated encoder/decoder, which doesn't actually need the rest of the graphics ca...

Isn't digital lovely...

Since Kenya codeshare with KLM I am confused as to why you are putting yourself through the Heathrow torture, but if it saves a few Euros fair enough, or will you be back in the UK anyway then? Kenya are also strict on handbaggage so be aware of the weight of your kit. I am soooooo jealous  ...

Web Design

That is what I thought, when looking at nvu. I have scripted a lot of things in text and done on the fly testing in a real program. It takes a long time if you are scripting object positions on a 3d map and need to get a whole of list of things just with basic coordinates. Main problem was the loadi...

"Most useful and unusual photographic accessory" award

... goes to me tonight I feel. It is a bottle of "1001 mousse, carpets and upholstery", with spray nozzle. Picture the scene, if you will. A spider, hanging on a strand of web from the ceiling. 'Aha, where's the camera and extension tubes', is my instinctive reaction. I put down...

"Most useful and unusual photographic accessory" award

Hi Chris, You said: Strangely, the photographic moment is past. Some time later, much kitchen towel for blotting used, 1001 sprayed and scrubbing scrubbed, the carpet is now damp, but hopefully clean (1001 is marvellous stuff). To make your award really stand out and well earned: Next time fil...

Im almost off and away..RANT!

Want to talk about gubbins not feelings.... Precisely why threads were deleted yesterday. I didn't follow the threads in question but can guess the route they took, again. If people can't be a bit civilised towards each other, and use smileys to indicate when they are not serious, then I thin...

Windows

Howard I spent a few weeks in France during May and took a few snaps of some stain glassed windows. The ones i am posting here are not the best examples (this was my first foray into DSLR photography) but it will give you an idea of what you will be up against. I found a number of the Churches and C...

Quick release tripod heads

I prefer quick release (QR) plates. For long lenses however, you might need to remove the rubber pad that the lens/camera sits on as it can cause the camera/lens combination to be somewhat less than rigid. I had to do this in order to reduce the movement of my SMCP 135-600mm zoom. Its tripod mount i...
