Camera backpacks
Hi Niblue, I used by bag for the first time "in the field" so to speak at the weekend, and then realised what you may have been asking. It carries the the DL with the 100-300 attached with a good 1" to spare, and at a squeeze probably 2-21/2" spare, so as that's the lens you'...

Will I have to go back and re-take the pics
I went to my favourite "photo" place this weekend, took about 200 pics, ( how I love digital ), but do you think I need to go back and saw off the obvious offending branch, and re-take the pic ? *ist DS- 1/4 sec @ f27 on a 28-80 zoom from my old Z-1, ( Sorry not entirely sure how to get t...

What you use?
I have already decided that my next home PC will run some flavour of *nix. If you are running Windows you're already running *ix (not exactly *nix). Much of Windows is based on the POSIX OS/language. A long time ago, in a far and distant land, Microsoft once sold XENIX (they obviously couldn't sp...

"Snap!?".... What the @!%&$# was I thinking?
I can't believe I chose "Snap" as my useres name for this forum. I guess I was a tad drunk or something when I first signed on the forum over a month ago that night. I was excited about getting my old Pentax gear back from my sister who's halfway across the country from me and wanted to s...

Big problem with KR mount lens
This is a well-known problem - but obviously not well-enough. Ricoh lenses have a small pin that tends to get caught in the AF actuator of a Pentax auto-focus camera. There is no easy solution. It might be possible to disassemble the lens from the front, though you usually need to get at it f...

Big problem with KR mount lens
flat metal automotive feeler guages (in conjunction with repeatedly pressing and releasing the lens release on the body)might work if there's any wiggle room to get it in there. in fact you might try just pressing the lens release on the camera body and allowing it to snap back. the idea is to wigg...

New pentax models
I'm curious as to whether we think a "medium format" DSLR will be useful to the amateur? Oe would a full frame 35mm-sized DSLR be more to the point? The review of the Mamiya ZD in the new AP, which runs to eight pages, concludes that although it can produce stunning A3+ prints there are...

New pentax models
Quite agree with George. And to be honest, what is there to be gained anyway? The new 12-24mm lens is just great, and the 10-17mm fisheye covers wider still - so why go full frame? The only full frames out there are from Canon (1Ds-MkII and 5D), and they are CMOS, not CCD. New skills need to ...

New pentax models
I don't know for sure as I don't remember much from the late 70s/early 80s that's photography-related (except that I had a Polaroid called "The Button"!), but isn't Pentax's bizarre strategy of releasing lots of cameras with similar specifications (K100D, K110D, *ist DL, *istDL2 etc.) the ...

repair
Sad indeed. I had an istD repaired by Pentax UK a few months ago. The repair cost was reasonable and it came back well packaged. It'll be a result if they were to give you a 645NII as a replacement though, will it not?.

They were like that with my Pentax ME Super. I paid them the £60 to get it fixed (shutter speed) and serviced. I then waited, and waited and waited. Two months later I rang up and they said it was going into the workshop. I received it a few days later in the post (which maddened me as I'd ...

The camera was pretty poorly packaged (moving around in poly chips in the cardboard box)..... All the signs of the camera being dropped, before or during transit, I think. Has anyone had a similar experience? The sympathetic bloke I spoke to suggested that they might replace the camera but this is a...

latest news is that the 645 has gone off to Europe again. I'll be quite happy if it comes back fixed but not if I have to wait another 3 months.

repair
Well it is now back looking better than it has for years. They replaced the top and bottom covers and fixed the back focus and replaced the lens contacts. All this on top of the work they did previously adds up to an almost as good as new camera. But (why does there always have to be a 'but'?) the p...

Wedding Photography Tips
I plumped for a 9 month deal at Warehouse Express (both in stock), although they are more expensive, it was all Mrs McBrian would alough, I have to pay for them myself, not from the depository. Ordered some Lee filters as well, ND soft grads and Soft Focus set, holder, hood and a range of adaptors. ...

Wedding Photography Tips
Best of luck on doing the wedding. I've only done one so far (my mothers) and I've refused others since! The one I did was back in the pre-digital days and it was quite a nervous time while the films were getting developed. At least with digital it'll be possible to check the shots as you're goin...

Wedding Photography Tips
Hi, I did a wedding for a friend's daughter once, who couldn't afford a proper photographer :P at the time. I have to say that it's one of the most nerve racking days I've ever had.. until the pictures came back. That was using 35mm (ME Super), and my better half stood over my shoulder with a...

Wedding Photography Tips
Niblue I'm actually very much looking forward to doing this. The good thing about this "First" wedding is that it's a church affair and there will only be the B&G plus seven guest's, not a bad one 8) to see how it goes, we have plenty of time to get some practice in. We will have ple...

Wedding Photography Tips
My first job was as a wedding photographer and I pretty much hated it at the time but now, thirty years on I realise just how much I learned about photography and more importantly dealing with people. The guy I worked for was an award winning wedding specialist. You would get fired for some of these...
