Weekly Competition #315 - Red Competition

Pause for Thought by Tiny2. This image stood out from the rest for me with the child in isolation and looking as if he is reading the text on the floor. My only criticism is the top left corner. I would have cropped the dark area out so it did not distract your eye. Well done

Golden Dawn Break -
Nicely seen image. Love the out of focus background. Could not help but to notice the hair on the bottom left of flower buds. Always pays to have some tweexers handy!

Secretary Bird Portrait -
Nice and sharp image but unfortunately there is a flare accross the image that is ditracting. Don't forget the lens hood.

Fucshia -
Unusual technique. Used your imagination here but did not quite make it.

Once in a Forest -
A lovely picture .Nice and sharp and detailed. The only thing I was concerned about was the detail of the hair was lost against the tree, probably due to the placement of the model and the direction of light. Loved it though.

Red Sunset -
Nice sunset shot but unfortunately we see so many !

Victorian -
Liked this one Simple but interesting. Lovely lighting.

Bar Exchange -
I felt there should have been someone in the image at the bar as image lacks a point of interest.

A bit of Vertigo-
Certainly the correct title but didn't work for me.

Red-
This image could have done with cropping down to make the flower more dominant in the image and cut out some of the blue sky which is distracting.

Redish -
Nice flower shot but the red flowers are not the centre of attention.

Big Healey -
Love this car but is it a copetion shot or a record shot? Still nicely done.

First Autumn Leaf -
Love this shot, Came second in my opinion. Great detail and sharp.

Rasberry -
Again great sharp image but the red seems a bit pale.Liked it alot.

Oris Red Rotor.
Another sharp and interesting image. Trouble for me my eyes were drawn to the engine detail which is good but the red went out of the image for me.

Men in Skirts -
Fun image but the lady on left is blurred (and not a man!) Good holiday record for the photographer.

Hot Tin Roof-
Lovely image. Wish I was there. The roof is sort of pink rather than red for me but lovely shot and well composed.

Red Glaze Abstract-
Well spotted. Makes you think about what it is. Love the colours.

Red Flower-
I felt this image needed cropping down to loose the white out of focus area on bottom left and some of the empty space on left. Nice try.

Fireworks -
Always like to try and get these shots and they are not easy. Felt the overall image was a bit dark and needed the red bringing out more.

We're Red Too-
Nice image of the flowers but more of a record shot for me.

Leaf alone -
Nice shot. For me needed a bit more saturation to bring out the red and a bit of spotting on the water surface to remove some of the surface detail.

Salad Days-
I liked this shot and for a long time was leading the way. Only fault was the front of the red peper was just a bit soft. Well done.

The Flying Squad-
Fun picture but with so many entries need to be picky. The person in the image is not flying the squad as their strings go out of the shot. Would have been better if the flyer was in the image instead.

La Ballerine Rouge-
A nice set of images but had the one on the left been entered on its own it would have been at the top and possibly a winner.

Well with 25 entries this was a tough one for me having never judged before. I'm afraid I have kept my comments a simple as possible and I hope noone will be affended by them.

not a tweezer job... the hair is, in fact, a very much in use brace line for a cobweb!
At one of the other angles I took, it showed up as too bright a line! In fact, I nearly entered a pulled back shot that did include the web... but the background, being much more in focus, distracted from the red flower...
Now, what is Tiny2 going to set us??

Yep I knew that I reduced my chances by providing a composition instead of a single shot (as in all the 315 competitions there was only one composition on place 1 but this might not really count as the topic was asking for collages ). However - I used the single shot in a recent monthly competition and didn't want to use exactly the same again and I very much like such photo works where pictures and some labeling are combined to a composition. For me, this is a very typical type of photographic art work which is very underrepresented in this forum.....

Some great images once again! Thanks for setting this competition Tony and I agree with your comment re cropping. I now have the task of setting the next competition!
