Description

I thought that "Glamour" will be a good theme for this week. Please submit your interpretation of splendour, style, high class and much beyond that, the interpretation is very wide. Can be vintage, can be modern, glitzy or delicate and subtle. I would like to see anything you consider to be very special, breathtaking and simply glowing.
Make the viewers sigh!
GOOD LUCK!

Hello, I'm back.

I must admit it was very very difficult. All entries were superb and every single one had "something" in it, it was very hard to choose the winners. However, a few pictures grasped my attention and gave me a lot of inspiration more than others and I tried to put that in my comments. Thank you for the entries again.
My judging was very subjective. As I said before I'm just a beginner really, so please accept my apologies if my comments are crude sometimes.

Jade by JohnRiley – very fine picture. The lighting is very interesting, I also like where she’s looking, it makes me want to follow her gaze. Her smile gives a lot of life and energy to the picture. Very good image!

Sicilian Restaurant by Scoody – I like the picture mostly for the way the model is looking at the camera, it feels subtle and dreamy, very beautiful. I wish the DOF was shallower. I have a strange feeling that the plant in the back is sharper than the face.
By the way, do pictures have to be taken with Pentax cameras? Your exif shows Sony.

Shy diva by Bill_And – I like the idea very much, oriental and mysterious. You managed to capture light reflections in her eyes which gives the person more life. Do you think adding more light to the face would "equalize" the picture? I have an impression the belly is brighter and it draws attention, emm, downwards .

Glamour Cabs by BAJ – The theme is fantastic – I just love retro-style images. The red of the car looks excellent. Do you think a bit more contrast and lower “f” would help them to really stand out?

A Porshe-Davidson by AlexLuther – 2nd place, the picture is excellent. Certainly glamorous, fine machine with stainless steel, chromes, all exposed perfectly with lighting. You can feel what's it like to touch it. It can’t be any better. I spent a lot of time comparing the winner’s and your picture and there would certainly be two 1st places if only there was an option.

Chilling after work by shargreaves – yes, this certainly is full splendour, sssssssss. Perhaps Hilton would purchase the image to use on their posters and booklets? Well executed, well captured. Very good photograph.

Under the Bonnet by iBerg – very interesting idea. Underside of the bonnet, wow! I would love to see the car!

The Beauty of Bath by BigJacko – well captured! A posh restaurant and a ridiculously pretty girl on the first plan. Did you take her number? If I’m to nag then I think the “f” is unnecessarily high and so the DOF is very big.

Glam Goth by davidtrout – I think it’s a very good picture, it certainly doesn’t leave viewers indifferent and it grasps attention. I’m not sure if it’s him or her, but I do enjoy how you managed to deal with the colours, DOF and sharpness.

TAYLOR by Dwight Morton – I do like the general softness, it looks a bit misty and the lighting is good. Well done.

OldTimes! by Dadeia Andrade – lovely theme, looks like a ballroom on the Titanic. I found the picture a little chaotic though – there is a lot of information and I couldn’t find the most important message to grasp attention.

Her First Glamour Shot by JudithAnn – very lovely, soft and delicate picture. The lighting is very interesting, it all shines and is truly beautiful. Like it a lot!

Lady in the crowd by beginner – This is the same event as David's isn't it ? Well executed candid – colours and light are good, the background is blurred. Shame she is so hidden somehow, there is very little of her and it could be more interesting if the unusual person was better exposed.

Marylin – glamour personified and timeless by Tozza27 – Marylin is gorgeous and I’ve always liked the vintage 50s posters with saturated colours. Really nice. The only glitch I would “photoshop out” is the left upper corner as it automatically shows that it’s a poster and “kills” the effect.

Land girls glamour!!! By Malcolm leader – lovely theme and nicely done. All parameters are very even which can be a good thing, but did you try more saturation, sepia or giving it more “vintage character”?

Lady in Red by grahamwalton – 3rd place. A really lovely portrait, congratulations. Very good illumination, it even makes her hair glow, reds are superb. It has a kind of 70s feel, it certainly could be a cover of an old fashion magazine. I think it really deserves to be on the podium.

cabbage chic by alun – wow this is very different It’s a super picture really – great sense of humour and technically it’s really nicely done as well

my daughter by Jaromir – excellent high-key portrait. Fantastic angle, good tones, perfect DOF. Certainly one of my favourites here.

Red by Lowela – my winner today. Very interesting, creative, intriguing and truly stunning picture for me. The details and the white cloth make a fine background and the the face in the mobile phone really stands out, makes the image mysterious and gives a lot of character. You can read the main theme very well, the picture is consistent and the eyes are just mesmerizing. Every single thing works very well here, the idea is excellent, you even softened the whole. WOW!

Quatar Glam by aliengrove – very very nice, classy, expensive and it gives the golden feeling of ancient orient, it's splendour and the idea of how much money can be made on oil. The image is very nicely done. 3rd place

1930s American Dream by Hyram – superb – well taken - showing chromes and pink paint the image certainly has the feeling!

Lincoln Continental Mark IV by DrOfloff – good image and well balanced. A little shame it gives a little feeling of the rest of the car.

wow - this was close (sh... I had such a nice idea for a competition theme ) - Lowela - congratulations for the win and for the wonderful picture (reminds me a bit of CD-Cover - so really perfectly visualizing the theme of this weeks competition).
Adi - this was an interesting topic (amazing to see - which associations photographers have, when they think of glamour) - and you continued the nice tradition to offer usefull comments to all pictures.

Well done Lowela - a very cool shot, and cleverly executed.

Thanks Adi for the critique - useful stuff, and you're bang on (dammit!) You must've spent ages trying to sift thru that lot, and writing them all. Well done to you too!
