Ooops...yes this was another thought I forget to throw in. I was reading with interest another thread regarding teleconvertors. I guess that would probably be the easiest/least expensive way of getting a few more mm but would it be really worth it ?

I'm heading off to Axalp in October for Swiss Air Demonstration in the mountains (Examples here ).....

..I'll have my Pentax KM and DA 55-300mm with me but am wondering if I should splash out on something like the Sigma 150-500mm to give me a little more. I wonder if anybody on here has been ?

Now its going to be hard to to find the cash but I could perhaps look at selling some of my older SMC lenses to go towards the fund, primaraly my 300mm F4. I've never used it with my KM but as somebody who doesn't like parting with things would I be a fool to consider getting rid of it ?

I also have a Pentax 400-600mm Reflex Mirror - I never really got to grips with this and its been unused for a good few years. Reading the thread Tamron Mirror lens it would seem its not worth really considering taking this with me as results might be patchy at best especially with little experience of it.

I guess I might just end up sticking with my DA and enjoy the trip regardless !

I've recently taken quite a few shots with my KM on a trip away and on reviewing them back home I seem to have a mark on all of them.....

Its not the lens as it appears when I used either my 18-55 or 75-300 lens so I can only assume its the sensor/CCD glass ?

It doesn't appear to be dust as I see some in some photos as its not a "dot" as such - more a "water mark", perhaps a slight smudge ?




Been looking at the Eclipse (E2?) cleaner and swabs - any suggestions/help much appreciated as to whether you think that would sort the problem ?

I wish my shots were up to the standard of some seen on airliners.net and I was still on a steep learning cureve with my KM before I seem to have deveoped the fault mentioned in another thread.

Picture below was taken this afternoon, one of the first with my 55-300mm DA lens - I just didn't seem to get the exposure right on some others

Whilst my recently purchased KM appears to have developed a fault as mentioned in my thread on another section I'm over in St Maarten on my hols and wondering if grabbing a 55-300mm DA lens for US$385 or hopefully less) - about GBP235 would be worth it ?

Seems to be a few pounds saving on current pricing back home but are the pitfalls of purchasing outisde the UK going to haunt me do you think ?

OK, I have updated to Ver 1.1 OK but it I still have the same issues

As a note after updating I was expecting the date to be reset and so on but it seems all settings inc the Apperture option to "Permitted" stayed the same.

It looks like it will have to either go back to the retailer for an exchange when I get back home (its only 3 months old - so I'll be quoting Sale of Goods Act) or Pentax for repair depending on which way I go.

Thanks Stefan - I can only assume (dangerous !) it is some issue on the body as the problem appears with both my DA lenses and up until yesterday afternoon both were OK and there is an obvious descrepency between the Status screen F stops and those in the viewfinder display,

I seem to be stuck with F4 and F5.6 so using Tv mode and adjusting the shutter speed seems the best way at the moment. If I can get by this afternoon (aviation stuff over the beach in St Maarten) I'll be happy enough !

I'd prefer to avoid the firmware option if it makes things worse but on the other hand it might clear the problem too perhaps ?
