They may be working very very hard transferring everything into the new shop BUT they have been fantastic with the two orders I have placed with them .

With service like this - honestly I would head to them whenever possible.

Oh - I know about Calumet having been to a printing Seminar in New York Fantastic place I agree though . Would have loved to spend ages there - but they didn't have any Flash Units for the K-x when I was there.

I was looking online today for the new bag [ he doesn't know I have bought it yet wait till he see this ] and found that the one that I think will fit the bill is the Lowepro FastPack 250 and for once New York is not the cheapest place - SRS have beaten them - so I await it on Friday morning

Calumet will certainly be seeing me in the future

Having said that my purchases of equipment are now over [ OK I have a mental pic of Photomonk leaning back in his chair laughing hysterically at that ] . It's not strictly true - I'll admit , a telephoto lens will have to be got before the summer . BUT having now got 3 camera bags - I'm getting rather embarrassed by the quantity of things I have .

I can't resist this though - The price I paid for my K-x was truly incredible - considering all the wee extras I got with it The bill came to £441.15 !! WOW ! That trip to NYC was well worth the trouble getting through the Verified by Visa hassle [ and THAT was a real nightmare ]

Glad I don't disappoint

Just recovering from the shock of seeing a bit of blue sky for the first time since I got back

I'm not disagreeing at all .

I am concerned that this taking photos 'thing' is going a bit far .

I don't carry ID with me [ unless out of the country - then I do ]

Yes we should be aware of ourselves AND other people .

I can imagine the reaction from some of the 'Jobsworth' types if you say I'm a street photographer - their instant reaction is likely to be "prove it " Whether or not you have to have one I'm willing to bet they will ask for your licence [ is there still one for Street photographers - I think there was at one time ] It's not just the PCSOs we have to be aware of - there are all the private Security Folk too - you just need to look at reports about their reactions - the Merrill Lynch episode recently is just one example.

I would always be happy to show my pictures [ such as they are ] but I'll handle my camera and they will NOT get my Memory card

Part of the problem is , I think , that she was interested in the buildings and trying to get shots of them . That's OK as far as it goes .

Where she came unstuck was that she included, in her filming, the various Security Cameras .

This is more or less avoidable with a still camera and being careful - but can you / do you , have time to ensure that you do not include the cameras ?

I still feel that if this sort of situation continues we are going to lose tourists . Gone are the days when Cops would stand happily and let you photograph them - they now wish to preserve their right to anonymity . That's understandable - they have a right to private life.

It takes a brave person to stand there when a PCSO comes up and says they are going to stop you taking photos , and want to see your ID .

How many of us do walk round with ID of the photographic type which is what the PCSOs will be wanting ?

Do you need to take with you the written instructions from someone to take these pictures ?

Is it going to become necessary to ask for permission to take photographs of buildings ? That would certainly spoil the spontaneity of this type of filming

Now as soon as Photomonk sees this is he going to be laughing fit to burst

More thoughts needed from you all - on camera bags

OK so I went to the US to collect my K-x - which I had bought from Adorama at a simply stupendous price - and with it came a collection of goodies too [ 8GB memory card , Charger and 4 batteries ( as well as the 4 supplied with the camera ) , lens cleaning kit and a Lowepro EX160 camera bag ] All this was waiting for me , delivered by Adorama [ free of delivery charges] the day after it had been ordered , to Photomonk to stay there till I arrived .

He being a very wise Photomonk , unpacked the lot and realised that the bag would not do me for long .

Once the camera was set up we fitted it into the bag and realised that there was very little room for anything else , where was I going to put the Flash unit and the other lens that would eventually come ? Lots of space for the little things - batteries memory cards etc but definitely short of room for the bigger things. However it did for a few days .

I came home with a Lowepro Micro Trekker 100 as well

This meant that travelling home I had a roller case , my TechAir 370 Back Pack for my laptop and the little Micro Trekker back pack .

Now the Micro Trekker , as far as I can see will cope for some long time - my newly acquired Metz Mecablitz 48AF-1 is in it and there is still room for another lens .

The problem is actually travelling - I'll need my Lappy with me , and a case and my camera bag .

Just how do you guys cope ?

Watching the video of that I found it very interesting that the second PCSO actually payed no attention to what was going on - I felt his body language showed that he was embarrassed by the whole episode.

No allowance was made for her imperfect command of the language - yes her comprehension is obviously good - but occasionally she uses an expression / phrase that can be misinterpreted by a native / first language speaker .

I really think that the Police forces should be a little more careful in their approach . We are going to lose visitors because of episodes like this - who is going to want to come to London with a camera and risk being approached , asked to prove their ID and give the reason why they are taking pictures .

And being the Pro - puts pressure on you to produce the goods - you can't really turn round and say to the person / firm employing you " sorry - not my best - I really couldn't be bothered today "

OK guys - thanks for a very interesting discussion

Don - I enjoy looking at other folks photographs , don't know enough to criticise , but all of them give me some ideas as to how I might in future go about things . I spotted those pictures you spoke about - I liked them and realised I couldn't produce anything like that - which in a way depressed me
