Hello, I can't see a way to contact the Moderators directly so hope someone will read this who can edit the forum. Please could you change the title of my original thread to something like 'raw format issue in photoshop with K5IIs'? or similar. I would completely change the original thread if I could to something less drastic but wouldn't want to delete it completely because it raises what might be an genuine issue for Pentax users.
Thank you everyone for helpful comments.

Steph

Hi Sean, I will try to get the title amended. Sorry if this has upset anyone or given anyone the wrong impression of the K5iis, which I am sure will give great service once I have sorted out the raw format issue.

thanks all for speedy advice. pardon my strop, thanks to Percy, I can now open raw files in CS5 by converting them first to DNG. Very glad I can keep my camera, great results first time out (now I can see them)

have just taken delivery of a K5iis only to find its raw files are not compatible with photoshop 5 or photoshop 6 - can't be opened in Adobe bridge either. No information about this in manual. Pretty useless really. I can see the new camera being on ebay pretty soon.

I seem to remember that some people have had problems like this in the past and the solution was ti right click on the icon and select "run as administrator".

Many thanks for your reply John. Yes, i do transfer the images directly from the card onto my pc but then if I open them in the software, i can't do any editing. You're right though I must get Photoshop Elements. Cheers.

The software bundled with the camera is basic, but useful if it's the only RAW converter you have.

A better approach is to use a card reader to transfer the images to the computer. This is not expensive and car readers are widely available.

Then a program to manipulate the images, perhaps Photoshop Elements. If you only want very simple adjustments, then something may be bundled with Windows or perhaps a free download from the web.

Personally, I don't ever load the software that comes with a camera and as I use JPEG capture I don't need a RAW converter either.

am delighted with the KR i bought last week but having problems with the software which came with the camera. It seemed to load alright but although i can see the images i can't do anything with them. I downloaded a 'patch' from the pentax website but that hasn't made any difference. Running MS Vista premium. Have contacted Pentax to ask for help but in the meantime, any ideas welcome.
