Despite the gloomy looking skies the day was warm with a sprinkling of sunshine - helped the ice cream vans to do a roaring trade!

Love the sky in #1 but equally drawn to the lights reflecting in the water in #2 and #3

I have just had a 'gentle fall' while out walking with my K3iii and the DA*300mm F4 - similar result in that I ended up with two bits of kit rather than one. In my case the K mount was ripped out of the K3iii body and was left securely attached to the lens. Once home I removed the mount from the lens (which was completely unscathed) and checked that it was still flat and not buckled. Like your lens the camera mount also screws into plastic fittings. With some trepidation I refitted the mount which surprisingly seemed quite solid (all the screws tightened - I was expecting a few to just spin uselessly ) and checked the functions with a lightweight lens attached. Every thing worked fine - which was a bit of a surprise. The camera has gone off the Ist Aid Repairs to have the mount checked before I start attaching longer lenses again just as a precaution

The focus point is so slim or I am just too unsteady to get anything decent.
Will persevere but not very hopeful
Steve and John have both given excellent advice. I have found that when first going back to my film era Pentax-M and Pentax-A manual focus lenses the results have been disappointing. After some trial and error I came to the realisation that my technique had changed over the years of using AF lenses and bodies with IS, so going back to the drawing board and working more slowly and taking advantage of my DSLRs wide iso range to use faster shutter speeds started to produce acceptable results - from there with more practice results (and enjoyment of the process) things have steadily improved.
M series lenses are as you say things of beauty, so stick with it, it will be worth it in the end

The horses without any riders and the helter-skelter without anyone sliding down seem quite sad to me,
