what if they can't remember where it is
Sounds fishy to me. Have you checked their camera bag?

I've been fortunate enough to have both at the same time in the past.

From my experience, it depends what you're shooting. In my case, it was portraits of my young, fast-moving kids and I found that the DoF at f/1.4 was so small that I hardly ever got any shots in focus when hand holding, so tended to stop down to f/2 or 2.8 anyway.

That, plus the fact that the Pentax had a much nicer feel to the focus movement, meant that ultimately I kept the Pentax and sold the Samyang to fund an FA77.

However, the Samyang is a fine lens and excellent value, so if you want the small DoF and what you shoot allows you to take the time to nail the focus, it's definitely worth it.

I've got one of these, similarly afflicted, but haven't got around to cleaning it up yet.

My first stop would be to try to unscrew the trim around the front element (I've used a rubber sink plug or an M42 rear lens cap with strategically placed bits of double sided tape around the trim ring you're trying to unscrew, on lenses in the past).

However, some lenses have their trim ring mounted on a separate, internal thread behind the filter thread (e.g. my early version of the K50/1.2) on which the trim ring can't be unscrewed from the front, so if it moves but becomes tighter as you try to unscrew it or refuses to yield to reasonable torque, it may be that you need to try taking something else off first.

Best of luck.

and a later design which appears to have a fair bit of Tamron involvement (but Pentax electronics and SMC coating)
I've got the Tamron badged version of this lens, that I used as an outdoor walkaround lens before getting my 18-250.

I like it - it's pretty sharp, I like the rendering and it feels well built for a plastic lens (as it is plastic, it's also quite light and easy to carry).

I could be persuaded to part with it as I no longer really use it, drop me a PM if it's of any interest.

Do it...
The thing is that I bought an FA77 last week, so it's unlikely to happen soon, unfortunately, but I'll be looking out for more samples.

Personally I would go for the 50-150
I'll have a look out for that as well; I like Sigma lenses and have inadvertantly become a bit of a Sigma fan with a 24-70/2.8, 30/1.4 and 105mm macro.

(apologies for the thread hijack)

There are some really good shots there. Definitely stirring my LBA for a 50-150 (or a 50-135)...

A Mac won't protect you against port scanning or phishing though...
Or, indeed, more sophisitcated malware:

It's just that there are more Windows PCs on the web, which makes them a more appealing target because 'successful' malware on Windows PCs has a bigger target market as it were and is therefore more profitable for the bad guys.

This means that Windows malware is much more prolific, but mainly due to the fact that not so many people are interested in attacking Macs.
