I had one and liked it a lot. Only sold to get the DA so I could have AF.
Sort of regret selling it now.

The DA just about works on film, if that is of relevance, but you need the right AF body to use it.

That is a nice setup, just too much for me.

I use an old auto Sunpak with radio trigger. Not ideal, but just about works. Exposure at close distances is tricky.

Steve

Sorry - did not see this first time round. What were you asking for the tripod?

Let me know if £50 is acceptable for the MZ5 and lens. Thanks

Annoying as some of RiceHigh's "measurebations" are, at least he did have the sense to test the K-m vs Canon 5D all with Pentax glass (FA28/2.8 vs FA43/1.9 Ltd). Looks like he prefers the K-m Olive from today's post

But, unfortunately, he seems to be a JPG guy - so there goes the test results out the window

There was a comment on Luminous Landscape website a long time ago, which drew some flak, on the same subject: the high end Canon DSLR required some PP work on RAW files to bring out the best image quality, whereas their 300D produced very acceptable jpegs, as it was optimised to do so. The ultimate image quality will come from the high end Canon, but most of the time, for most of the people the 300D was enough. Sort of relevant here as well really.

" please post a good comparison as GL suggests although I guess that means getting an M42 to Nikon adapter - we could have a whip round".

Ken[/quote]M42/Nikon glassless adapters do not exist due to registration distance problems (correct me if I am wrong please someone!) The adaptors that include glass signficantly degrade image quality.

Agreed: there pluses and minuses for everything. the tone of some of the banter here has been that Nikon/Canon/Sony/Hasselblad will provide a perfect solution. they do not, even at the price of a D700. But then what do I know, I still use film.
Nope, I don't think you got that quite well. Sorry but seems you got that wrong, and this is how arguments arise.

My understanding is simply that some people think and feel that they will be better served by a different model or system. What is their priority in the feature list will be more satisfied by either upgrading within the same system or changing systems. I am sure they would be sacrificing certain aspects but that's how their priority list is. I did not read anywhere anything which mentions that their changing would provide them with a perfect solution. I did read however being mentioned that it would suit their needs, that's totally different from my understanding.

But what do I know about understanding english language?
After all I am just someone with an imperfect grasp of the understanding and use of the English language whose language skills were obtained in a humble British educational system
Aminstar stop please, im choking here!

You should be on stage hahahaha
I think we have split the hair three ways here:

"Grass is greener/perfect solution" users - lots of those.

"Rational/feature for feature" users - lots of those.

"English language" - no idea what you are on about.

I packed that lark in ages ago, my wife hated the smell of chemicals.
And basically I am a lazy photographer.
I would like even better kit at minimal cost also without so many buttons and menus, remember the days when you looked through the viewfinder and on the side or underneath you had the meter reading and what you were focusing on and nothing else?
Happy days....

These look fine to me. No need to defend yourself.

Almost any worthwhile (Pentax or any other brand photographer) will be using RAW images with some processing, to a greater or lesser extent. The skill of the processor has as much to do with the image as the sensor.
