Thanks everyone for the information. To be honest the price difference between the Sigma & Pentax makes me lean heavily towards the Sigma.

As I intend using a polariser most of the time could any users give me comments relating to the amount of vignetting I'm likely to find ?

thanks

I currently own the Sigma 17-70 & am delighted with the lens - however I'm looking for a little more at the wide end to complement the 17-70 & was hoping for a few recommendations.

I've already discovered the sigma 10-20 which seems to be well respected, any better alternatives ?

thanks

Still keeping an eye on Ebay to try & pick one up reasonably cheap.

I did also consider spending £150 on the FA 1.4 autofocus version but Portrait photography isn't really something I do much of so would rather spend the bulk of my cash on wide angle options

Seriously considering picking up one of these manual lenses & wondered about peoples experience regarding both image quality & ease of use/focusing accuracy

Having been only used to auto-focus lenses how will I find this to use ?

thanks

The K10D frequently underexposes, normally I dial-in between +0.5 & +1EV for a "spot-on" exposure - when shooting RAW it's possible to recover slightly blown highlights. Personally I prefer this in order to keep noise levels down if shooting high(ish) iso

The sigma 17-70 & Pentax 16-45 are both good replacements for the kit lens, IQ wise nothing much to choose between them - I bought the Sigma for the additional focal range & am delighted with it.

I am also seriously adding the Sigma 10-20, the extra wide angle would be very useful.

To be honest the "cloudy" water effect isn't really to my taste either, I much prefer to try & catch nature "as is", it's pretty damn impressive on its own !!

The slight blur in the waterfall shots on my website were purely due to the lack of light - I wanted a noise free image so kept the Iso pretty low.
