Well it arrived early this morning... I didn't realise postmen got up that early!

So went out in my other pride and joy for some test photos.

I'm loving it already

The photos are basically as shot, no sharpening, just resized.

Simon - have you looked at all the threads on the Sigma? I (and others) find this lens to be very good but you have to take great care when focussing to get good results. It seems exceptionally fussy in this regard.

Mike
Thanks for the info Mike, I will have a good route through previous threads.

Do you have any tips on how to get the best out of it?

Cheers

And are you thinking that that is all you will pay? If so, you could be in for a shock.

They're based in Hong Kong, do not provide UK warranty, and will almost certainly attract Import duty and VAT, and a handling charge for collection of those taxes.

An extract from their T's & C's (I've highlighted the important bits in bold and italics):-
Uhhhmmmmm.... some bits of what you say are right! Yes it appears to be an import.

But what the advert says (in the one I bought) is that it is shipped from the UK and not Hong Kong. They are in stock. They have a 12 month warranty. And definately no import charges!

What Sigma say as far as I can see is that I would need to prove that it was bought in the UK. I will have that info, their reciept!

I'm sure there will be more to it than that but hopefully Sigma's QC isn't as bad as it is being made out in this thread and I won't need to return it.

For me Stefan I'm talking about the Sigma 10 20mm F/4-5.6

I've dicided to take the plunge! I found a new one for £309 in delivery (Simply Electronics Ltd) which is a very good price. They are selling on Ebay at that price (£399 on their own website).

It has a full warranty..... so if it's cheap for a reason I can hopefully sort it with that!

I agree with Mike P about sourcing...I owned the 10-20 until recently, I went through 3 copies to find a good one !!
I thought this lens had a decent reputation. This really puts me off buying one.

Is Sigma's QC really that bad?

There's a nice new Jessops 360AFD Pentax fit flashgun for sale in the classifieds.
Thanks for the offer however I've not yet explained to 'er indoors yet about the Samsung SEF-54PZF! So I'm looking very cheap at present £10-£20.

Thanks again

My advice - search out the bargain buckets of local photography shops and second hand shops. You should be able to pick up a reasonably powered Sunpak, old Pentax, or Vivitar for around £20
Hi Matt

I have been offered an old Starblitz 3602dtz-ttl for a tenner. It has manual mode and is multi dedicated (inc Pentax), GN36.

Is this likely to be OK for a slave flash?

Any thoughts on Starblitz (Fuji?) as a brand?

Simon

PS Am I right to think that a flash unit which is dedicated to a particular brand, say Canon, can be usd as a remote wireless slave with the right slave trigger?
