Unless you are a video fan OR the AF really is noticably better (jury out on that) then buy the K5.
Or you use manual lenses and want focus peaking.

I've looked at the K20d manual and it should show 'MF' on the screen for three seconds after changing mode (if you haven't disabled the screen) and 'MF' in the viewfinder when you are in MF mode. So presumably even if you set the lever to AF, the viewfinder will still show MF if you have a manual lens attached?

I'm using K2000 (K-m).

Are you able to select AF-C and AF-S when you have it on? These options are greyed out for me because the camera thinks it is MF only.

Also I can't select multisegment metering, and the P-TTL flash just fires at maximum, as if I were using a non-A lens. Can you select multisegment?

I have just purchased an AF adapter and it works as you would expect for M-series lenses - the camera thinks there is an AF lens attached and provides AF options. However when I connect an A-series (or newer) the camera displays 'MF' rather than 'AF' and won't allow me to choose AF options. Also the metering is wrong and the F number is displayed on the screen but not the viewfinder, which displays F--.

When I depress the shutter it suddenly switches to AF mode, focuses, displays an F number, and changes the metering. Then it begins rapidly cycling between the AF state and the MF state. Sometimes I get a correct exposure and sometimes I don't (I think depending on if it used the MF or AF metering value.)

So to those who have used one: how does it behave with A-series lenses? Does the camera display show them as AF or MF? Is mine working as expected or do I need to return it?

IMO the ban is nothing to do with privacy or culture. The ban allows DSLRs to be used only by journalists. Previously it was pretty easy for a journalist to get into the country by pretending not to be a journalist. Now they won't be able to do that because as soon as they take out their camera the police will be able to ask to see their papers, which will have to say 'journalist'.

Strange thing is the guy auctioning the item on ebay previously sold two more of them with identical descriptions as 'buy it now' items for £100. Of course they both sold within 3 minutes of being posted. So I wonder how he came to have 3 identical but second-hand units, and yet have no idea how much they are worth.

In January VAT will rise and Pentax will stop offering cashback, so it seems a good idea to buy before then. But the current price may be artificially high due to early adopter and Christmas gift demand. So do you think the K5 will cost less, the same or more in February than it does now?

Thanks will try that.

It's listed at several shops but it's not in stock at any of them, including Park Cameras.

I was testing a new lens today when I noticed a small spot, only visible at F13 and above. I thought it was dust on the lens. But then I noticed the same spot is visible on my other lenses too. So I thought it must be dust on the sensor. I ran a sensor check, which showed nothing. Did a visual inspection (and air blow) of the sensor, which again showed nothing.

So what is it?
