I took apart a lens to free the diaphragm. The diaphragm works fine now. However, I managed to dislodge the aperture ring and A/M ring and I have lost two ball bearings (1mm) and a spring (1mm x 3mm). Any suggestions where I can get some replacements (preferably a bag full 'cos I am bound to lose some more)? I found http://www.micro-tools.com/ online but they are a German site (and hence charge 9 euros to send 95p of balls) and they don't have any springs.

I unscrew the lens from the adapter. Then when removing the adapter I press the lens release button on the body, just as if it was a regular lens, then twist the adapter and lift it out (both on the Kood and the Pentax variant).

I've encountered a few people who didn't press the lens release button, then jamming the Kood adpater and breaking the spring off...
Umm, I just read this, it does not seem right.

When I press the lens release button on my K100D the only things I see moving are the locking pin (between 8 and 9 o'clock looking into the camera) and the AF motor coupler (at about 4 o'clock). I looked inside the mount as I pressed the button and didn't see anything else move.

So that would suggest that the lens release button has nothing to do with releasing an M42 adapter. Can anyone confirm this?

Richard,
You may want to check the following:

1: SR is switched on
2: you are changing lenses with the camera turned off (the menu only comes up automatically when you turn the camera on with a non-auto lens)
3: the custom functions are set up correctly to allow using old lenses. It's something like "Allow use of Aperture Ring".

Hope this helps
Thanks, apparently it needs one more step. After doing some searches I found the following. The K100D uses some of the contacts to determine the min and max aperture of the lens and it does this by measuring whether there is an electrical contact with the lens. Apparently an M lens has just bare metal (can someone confirm this?), so all the contacts will short. In my case the contacts touch the painted face of the M42 lens and the K100D does not ask for the focal length even though it cannot get this any other way. After some searches I've found that a fix is to short the contacts using some aluminium foil, and I have found that this does work, the camera now asks for the focal length when I switch it on.

Go for SMC Takumars rather than Super Takumars
Thanks, I now know what to look for.

I thought I'd answered this stuff about focal lengths
Hmmm, did you do this in another thread? Any chance of indicating where?

If the spring has fallen out, you should be able to remove the adapter. Put two fingers into the throat and press outwards. Then, twist anti-clockwise, and pull.
Thanks George, I rather nervously tried that. It did not come out. So I applied some more force and after jiggling it around a bit the adapter came out. I think the screw that held the leaf spring had got jammed and would not let the adapter be removed.

Now without the spring I can attach an M42 lens. However, the camera still does not ask for the focal length, is it supposed to? Anyway I find that I have to apply +2 EV to get a reasonable exposure. I don't think my idea of using M42 lenses in my K100D is turning out to be a good one. (I had thought that I could get some Super Takumar M42 prime lenses cheap on ebay.)

I bought a Kood M42 to PK adapter. Naively I thought it was compatible with the pentax adapter.

I attached it to a M42 lens and then put it in my K100D. It engaged, as expected - I did not have to force anything, then I turned until I heard a click.

The first thing I noticed was that the body did not ask for focal length - I thought it was supposed to do this. Then in M mode I could not get the body to provide an exposure so I decided to remove the lens.

I unscrewed the lens and then used the Kood tool to try and remove the adapter. It did rotate, but the adapter won't come out. I then heard a ping and the leaf string from the adapter fell out.

Now I have the adapter in the body, I can rotate it 30 degrees or so, but I cannot remove it.

Help! what do I do next?

Could be that they have been breaking kits (more demand for K10D body only ) and are now selling off surplus kit lens.

SRS have this lens listed for £39
Ah, thanks.

I am rather new to this LBA. I already have this lens, but I would like a little more reach, so is it likely that there could be a surplus of, say, 50-200 in the near future?

It doesn't look like a used lens, so what is the catch?
