If you use the excellent ExifTool software on an image taken with a Pentax DSLR, you will see that there is the focal distance (the value seen on the lens is in three positions in the EXIF data, plus the SRFocalDistance which is the value needed by the Shake Reduction to take into account the reduction of FOV of IF lenses at short range).

There is also some distance information (8 possible values) in the LC2 byte (which also contains some information on the minimal focus distance of the lens).

I have an Optio E40 that got wet, and now it behaves as if the "play" button is always pressed. Therefore, I want to open the camera and see if I can repair it.
I have unscrewed the six screws, but the top of the camera (where the on/off and the shutter button are) does not open.
