Morning John, I have the Tamron 70/300 but as said that extra 20mm is tempting how far would you say you were from the bird when taking the photo.

I bought my Samsung from Argos - was on offer and just bought it without seeing the picture just the box it was in Luckily it was a wise move as the picture is fantastic and we thought we were in HD when watching normal sky as the picture was leaps and bounds better than our old LG model, the picture is uber sharp, colours saturated nicely and its just so much more vibrant from our old LG.

My mate has a Sony plasma and when we go around there to watch the football as it has a monster screen the grass looks terrible and its like we're playing a games consol - it looks terrible
Morning Gareth what model is the TV you have and when did you purchase it.

Thanks Guys very helpful feed back from you all. I have looked at a few shops such as Dixons and to be honest pic quality varied from set to set. I did look at the Sony but was not that overly impressed to be honest. There was a nice LG with a good picture and the spec was also very good as well.

It's a cracking lens when you get to grips with manual focusing mines pin sharp and cost me all of ten quid. If you have a 20mm or wider in the selection and if you want a sale for it pm me Im looking for something of that range to complete my selection.

The 50mm 1.7 M can be picked up at some very good prices I paid £10 for mine and it's prpbably the sharpest lens in my bag.

Not sure if yours is a af or mf version this photo was taken with the mf 50mm 1.7 just wonderd how it compared with your lens.

That is indeed very, very sharp and looks fantastic. Have a look at the links I added to a further up the thread post. They are compressed, so don't give a true representation of the full image and I am on a different computer away from home at the moment, so dont have the image to upload, but some of mine DO look that sharp, others just don't at all. The more I see and the more I think about this, I am beginning to think its more to do with my focusing technique, which is worrying.....Oh and mine is a MF lens......
They look ok to me Johnny may be if you had been a tad closer to your subject there might have been more detail to see in the portrait. It took me a little while to get used to the mf and I do still get the odd duffer now and again to be honest with you but overall I realy like the results from these mf focus lenses I also added a 28,35mm to my kit. Getting back to the question of the thread the 90mm Tamron is very much liked by two freinds of mine for portraits.
